Bit long, sorry TMI!

My ladybits have been rubbish all year; I had a uti right at the start of pregnancy (why I tested to check if I was or not!) and I've just managed to get a second at almost 18 weeks.

Never had one before, bar a kidney infection about 13 years ago so all new to me.

Q1 - I know the antibiotics are ok in pregnancy (certainly the one I took) but I still get a tad worried about affecting baby or even the placenta (mainly with regards to the good bacteria in it! Stupid I know but I've read too many articles about all this without really understanding wider things!)

I'm a bit more annoyed about needing antibiotics as my baby will have to go prophylactic antibiotics when born as our first had bladder/ kidney reflux (protocol in this nhs trust), and I will probably have a section. But my sane brain tells me the antibiotics for the uti are bacteria specific? Rather than broad spectrum? Hence why it's better baby goes on the prophylactic ones. (I do know that apparently bf for over a year restores gut bacteria in baby absent from section which is reassuring.)

Q2 - is it worth taking probiotic pills during the abs or after?

Q3 - anything I can take to ease the very annoying symptoms of the uti as the sachets say not in pregnancy.

Q4 - should I ask Dh to get tested or treated as it seems to have happened every time we have had intercourses after never having a problem before. (Not had much action since we conceived due to the first uti and then I felt too ill in the first trimester - this was the first time I'd felt up for it and thoroughly regret it!

(I know q1 is probably over thinking at the same time I'd be interested if anyone knows anything about this!)

You need to speak to your doctor or midwife. Cranberry juice can be preventative.

Sorry not helpful but I’m curious! Regarding Q1, I never knew it effected baby’s gut bacteria when done in pregnancy? I was in hospital last pregnancy nearly dying from flu and when told they were giving me antibiotic I asked the question, to which he replied it wouldn’t effect my baby like that - not until they were born (I was half conscious and didn’t know I was as bad as I was btw, I wasn’t just being a douchebag! Lol). Was he lying? 🤔 quite frustrating if so even though of course I would have taken them anyway. He sat down and talked to me about how it works for a good 20 minutes too.

Anyway regardless, gut bacteria is built over time, so from the moment you’re born. Breastfeeding helps mostly with this but you can build healthy gut bacteria several ways. In our lives we will need antibiotics at some point (less is better) so we may have to rebuild it throughout our lives anyway

Big baboon I don't think it does. My mind making links! I read the placenta has lots of good bacteria in it. Bit you're right, it can be built up.

Noodles I've dropped off a sample that's obviously an infection. They just dip and get back to you ASAP.

Going nuts with the tickly pain. Pharmacist couldn't give me anything Sad

Yeah I think q1 is my overactive imagination.

I'm going to hit the liquids and probiotics.

It's only bad for baby if it becomes a kidney infection, is that right?
