Flu Jab...talk me down!!

So I've had my whooping cough vaccine and am booked in this Thursday for my flu jab. I'm 24 weeks at the mo.

A lady I work with just told me not to get it, her father had a stroke afterwards, and it's my baby I'm hurting by being so uneducated.

I'm literally lost for words, I feel so panicked! My midwife told me it was safe but now thanks to this colleagues 'advice' of 'how could you live with yourself etc etc' it's made me feel so worried.

Please talk me down, she's prone to being a complete overreactor in normal life and usually I'd take anything she said with a massive pinch of salt, but it's my first baby...ugh...wish she'd kept her horror stories to herself Sad

Well I know somebody who had the flu jab, and then they won £100 on a scratch card! So you’d be silly not to get the jab and risk missing out.

That’s the level of logic she’s using. Ignore.

(My story’s quite true, he’s one of my dialysis patients).

My husband is a doctor, all of us and everyone he works with have all opted to have the flu jab. They are the people you should take your lead from.

I think some people just like to panic pregnant women. I had the flu several years ago. I was hospitalised for a week and felt the effects for 6 months after.

It frustrates me how much I panic with this woman!!

She made her opinions quite well known to me when I got pregnant and told her I would continue to be a vegetarian...she's very VERY I interfering at the best of times. But it just annoys me that as a FTM this kind of advice can just make me worry a lot.

Thanks so much for all the reassurance, of course it's safe, all my friends had it during pregnancy...ugh...there is always something to worry about!!!

This thread has taught me something actually. I didn't know that the flu jab was recommended in preganancy. Obviously it is! Does pretty much everyone have it?

Seacow87 · 05/12/2017 14:19

Pregnant women still die every winter of flu. The vaccine can prevent this. Please ignore your colleague.

itshappening! Yeah I think so sweet, ask your midwife she was the one who mentioned it to me plus the whooping cough xx

It’shappening pregnant women are more prone to complications from flu (your immune system is suppressed during pregnancy), it is pretty horrific (pneumonia, early delivery, death). So they do recommend that all pregnant women have it. It should be free via your GP.
