I'm 7/8 weeks at the moment with my first.
I am really struggling with the morning sickness.
Spent all weekend retching and feeling really nauseous.
I have a phobia of vomiting so when I do throw up i get so worked up I can't function for a while.
I'm not eating. Just nibbling on crackers or ginger biscuits.
Tried mints, mint tea, dry bread, sickness bands etc
I just don't know what to do. I'm exausted all the time because I'm so worried I'm going to vomit. I work in an office so I and sitting crunched up at a desk all day under bright lights...both of which are making me feel worse.

Tried making a doctors appointment but they are full for a few days.
I can't carry on like this for months!!

What do I do now?
sobs quietly to herself in a corner

Call in sick, you can self certify for a week.
Take the cycizine. Your dr was very unsympathetic, but there are 100a of pregnant women who take/took cyclizine with no side effects. I had it prescribed by the hospital! It may make the difference between a hospital stay or going to work.

canoechick · 10/12/2017 15:36

That's not really what unlicensed means - it doesn't mean there is no evidence (also cyclizine in pregnancy would be off label not unlicensed - off label as it has a license in other contexts but not in pregnancy whereas an unlicensed medication would have no license at all) It isn't ethical most of the time to do clinical trials in pregnancy which is why almost all medications would be off label in pregnancy however this doesn't mean that lots of women haven't taken these meds (and lots of women have taken cyclizine in pregnancy) and if they found strong evidence against its use it would be contraindicated and not used instead of being used off label

If you were close to needing admitting for iv fluids you should take the medication. And please please don't stop your inhaler either - ask for referral to an obstetric doctor before doing that.

scottishem · 10/12/2017 15:58

@Kitcat159 very surprised to hear your GP say that, I've been on cyclizine since 7 weeks and I'm now 25 and its been a life saver.
Don't worry about eating healthy just eat what you can at this point, plain carbs and cold food like sandwiches were my saviour along with ready salted crisps.
Theres a Hyperemesis Gravadium thread where the lovely ladies would be happy to share more of their tips with you Smile

I can't cope with this.
I feel faint and sick all the time 😢 the room keeps spinning but I am struggling to drink more.
I can't take any more time off work. I already feel so guilty for having 2 days off as I have had quite a lot of sick leave this year already. Plus I don't get paid sick leave anymore and I just can't afford to not get paid.

DH is not particularly happy with me taking the tablets and said to just drink more and see how I am.

Afternoon/evenings are so much worse. I just sit and cry. 😢

You are entitled to Statutory Sick Pay though. Sickness during pregnancy

user1485778793 · 10/12/2017 19:33

Take the tablets! Go to bed and rest.

It'll get worse if you dont

Emu31 · 10/12/2017 19:36

Don't worry about taking the tablets OP, your GP really shouldn't have scared you like that. Unfortunately there are many health care professionals who still have outdated views about the safety of treatments, and who really don't understand how debilitating severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is. Cyclizine is perfectly safe and has been used in pregnancy for many years, the reason GPs are sometimes concerned about prescribing anti-sickness meds in pregnancy is that they can't ethically actually conduct a trial on pregnant women so they are not 'certified' as safe - but practically they have been used for many years without problems. There are others that you can try if cyclizine is not effective for you, many women with severe sickness find that cyclizine is not strong enough. This is a really helpful resources that explains the various treatments available www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/documents/page_pdfs/PL14_Treatments_Information.pdf . I know first hand how awful this is OP and am sending you all my sympathies.

This. Emu has it bang on.

PurplePillowCase · 10/12/2017 20:00

yes, take the tablets. and your inhaler.
your previous gp sounds spectacularly shit tbh. the least they could have done is look at the bnf for the appropriate information.
your dh needs a shake as well. you are unwell. there is safe medication to make you feel better.

Kitcat159 · 14/12/2017 08:18

I took the tablet yesterday evening and was able to actually eat a meal rather than nibble in crackers! Hurrah!!
Only problem is I was out cold from an hour after taking it to just now (8am the next day)
I felt great yesterday when I was woken by DH and taken to bed where I crashed immediately. But this does mean I can't take it during work hours 🙁
So I'm going with feeling sick during the day, eating crackers etc, get home and have a tablet, eat real food and crash till the next day. Repeat.

Glad you took it finally!

You'll hopefully find that after a few weeks you'll feel loads better. My tablets knock me out too. But I only take 1 every other day now.
