Trouble Sleeping - pain in hips

Feel that this is a slightly odd one, but any advice appreciated!

I am 26 weeks and am finding that every night I can get about 4 hours sleep and then am woken up by dull ache in my hips. I am sleeping on my side but once I wake up cannot get comfortable again.

Any ideas before the bags under my eyes meet my bump

Sorry to hear that Bellie, and I have no advice as it happened through both of my PGs and then went away after babies were born.

Look at as nature's way of getting you ready for the weeks and months of sleep deprivation ahead.

Have you tried a pillow between your legs, this always helped me, it takes some of the pressure off.

HTH I'm still sleeping with a pillow at 41+3 weeks as I'm afraid this is something that gets worse not better - or it did for me anyway.

good point Carwillin - blimey I bet you have been contributing to the 'haven't you had that baby yet?' thread recently
the old pillow between knees and sleep on you left side, protects your vena cava artery in your abdomen from getting squashed.

Thanks guys - yes carwillin I do have the pillow between the legs and on my left side but does not seem to be helping much - obviously suzywong is right - natures way of preparing me for the sleep deprivation .

I have invested in a long "v-cushion", available from John Lewis. It's about 4-5 feet of supportive loveliness that allows me to sleep and sit up in some comfort as it supports me and bump in all the right places. Leg propped up by cushion is particularly good as it has improved my back no end! Good for feeding once baby is here too. It costs about £40 but there are cheaper versions available.

That said, have been awake since 4am with a baby that thinks it is training for the olympics... ho hum...!

I have to say that sitting in the lotus position for a while in the morning seems to relieve the pressure on the hip joint. Are you finding time to do any yoga?

I keep getting ache in the hip then spend 5 mins turning and reaaranging the pillows, and inevitably wake up DH.

However for the last few nights I hve not had the ache, but still needed to turn over - not sure if that is habit. The difference is that I have put a single duvet folded in half length ways on my side of the bed under the bed sheets, giving an extra cushion for my hips.

Thanks Scubamum2b - will try that - also am waking DH who is trying not to get grumpy with me as he then also fails to get back to sleep!!

yoga just does not seem to do it for me suzywong, but will try the lotus position and see what happens........

The duvet under the sheet seemed to work better - had 7 hours sleep last night and although I woke up a couple of times the pain was not as bad and also managed to get back to sleep quiet quickly!!
Bliss! smile{}

bellie, glad it has helped - we have got to get all the good quality sleep whilst we can. Once baby is born I think we will find out what it truely means to be tired.
