Our DC is 8 and we've long given up hope of a 2nd. I took a test this morning when my period still didn't arrive (I'm 41, cycle all over the shop, was expecting it to just prove I wasn't upduffed) and the bloody thing went positive. So did the one an hour later.

So far today I have learned that I no longer have to avoid peanuts (DH has an allergy to them so I avoided them 8 years ago) and that this baby may be here as soon at 30th June which would be interesting for the mid-July holiday we've got booked abroad. Oh, and there's a 40+% change of miscarriage as we're both over 40. Sigh.

DH is keen to tell DS who will be thrilled and completely unable to keep it a secret, but I just keep going back to that 40% figure. I don't know how to process all this. First midwife appointment available is just after Christmas so we're waiting until then to book in, irrelevant of how far along this is but, waaaaaah, how does life know how to do this when you thought your life was sorted and you'd made peace with that?

I'm due in the new year. I'll be 40 soon and 7 year gap. Only difference is I have been much more tired this time.

I'm 14w with DC2. I'm 38 and my DD will be 19 when DC2 is born. I've only just got my scan/combined test results back so I'm just starting to tell family now. We will tell DD this weekend.

Originally I planned to have DD as an only child so this has worked out pretty well for us - DC2 will be DH's first baby and we won't have to deal with a lot of the problems of juggling 2 dc needs, sibling rivalry etc.

Congratulations Flowers

Agree with comments of no telling (especially a sibling!) until scan confirms.

It's a scary time but (anecdotally) I do know an awful lot of people who had babies at 40+ with no issues which means jack shit I know

I had my last dd at 40, after a 22 year gap... Grin

Congratulations everyone!Flowers

I would also like to join if I may? I had my DS at 41 and am now 8 weeks pregnant. I'll be 44 by the time this one arrives if all goes well. I totally get the anxiety many of you feel about miscarriage! I had a mmc before DS and a mc at 7 weeks in September. I am going to try and keep this to myself for as long as I can. I don't have very strong symptoms so work is not likely to suspect.

Hope we all have healthy straight forward pregnancies!

It’s comforting to read so many messages from over 40’s mums. I just found out this week I’m (very unexpectedly) pregnant and I’m 42 in a couple of weeks. Still processing the news but the stats are scary. And this will be my first!

OP and all other commenters, congratulations and wishing you all the best x

This is the first thread I think where I've really wanted a Like function to go through and show how much these posts have meant to me.

Bump is still in place, DH thinks I've further along than I think I am as bump is getting more prominent, which is fun to hide, and we start the trips to family for Xmas this weekend.

Best of luck to all the over-40 bumps upthread.

We have a nearly 8 year old and a five week old born when I was 40 (and a five year old) the older two love baby and want to cuddle him all the time.

This pregnancy and birth were the easiest by far!

Is anyone in the older age bracket really panicking about the possibility of twins? The thought of twins absolutely petrifies me, but I know it's more common the older you get.

DontCallMeJohnBoy · 12/12/2017 16:36

AKP79. I am. A work colleague had twins in early 40s, a friend was told if she conceived again she had a high chance of twins and I have twins in my family. DH's comments about my more prominent bump are not helping my nerves.

It's all the practical stuff - needing a car that takes 3 car seats, 2 cots, routines to feed 2 of them, whether I could BF 2 etc. I'm so hoping for just the one.
