Tips for Nasuea

Hi Guys,

I'm nearing 7 weeks and I'm really struggling with nausea. It's got progressively worse over the last few days and I even took a day of work today because every time I move, a wave of nausea comes over and I start to dry heave. I obviously can't continue to take time of work and I assume it's only going to get worse (I've only been sick a handful of times), so does anyone have any tips on how to settle it? Ginger doesn't seem to be working for me and because I did throw up after drinking some ginger tea, I am fully turned of by it.

This is my first pregnancy and I knew I would struggle with the hormone changes but I was kinda hoping morning sickness would be feeling sick briefly, throwing up and then feeling better. I didn't know I would feel nauseous all the time. Naive I know!

I had this in the first trimester, I was told to eat dry food such as dry toast, crackers and things like that. Also to eat little and often. It didn't really do much for me but worth a shot

You can try the acupressure bands. Rest a lot, it's worse if you're tired. Sip water or another cool drink, maybe even a soft or sports drink if that sounds OK and status down. Nibble bland carbs frequently and try not to let yourself get hungry or go too long without eating, it worsens the nausea.

If you're really struggling see if your GP can prescribe you anti-nausea meds - but if you have to take time off work, you have to take time off. It happens and it is not the end of the world. In a year nothing will matter except that you put your own health first.

I find that eating something tends to help with my nausea so I have breakfast, snack 2 hrs later, lunch, snack, dinner, snack.

My snack is usually a couple of pieces of fruit to keep healthy!

I am in the same boat and can completely sympathise.Almost 12 weeks now and been off work since 8 being sick every day. I try and sip water all day and eat constantly which does help, can't manage a proper meal but I snack all day. Take it easy and don't expect too much from yourself that's what I e learnt!

Thanks for all your replies. I have had severe nausea last all day today so I am feeling quite fed up. It doesn't help that my cravings so far happen to be ice cream and chocolate and I rarely want to eat savoury food or if I do it makes me feel on edge, if that makes sense 😩 However I did try some dry crackers today and it seemed to do the trick and I was able to finally get out of bed at 3:30pm! I'm going to take them with me to work (probably tip off to everyone that I'm pregnant but oh well) so I can continuously snack on them throughout the day! Fingers crossed dry crackers are my saving grace lol

Rich tea biscuits got me through; the thought of crackers made me feel even more sick. Rich tea were light enough not to feel heavy in my tummy but really helped. Keeping something in my tummy really helped too.

Beige food is your friend OP. Don't feel bad about eating what you crave, even if it's junk food that you'd not normally eat. You just have to do what it takes to get through.

If it starts to really become a problem and interfere with your ability to work and live normally, do consider seeing your GP for medication. There are plenty of safe options to try. Cyclizine can help with nausea and vomiting in pregnancy and is widely prescribed.
