Finishing work at 30 weeks

Hi there everyone, in need of advice as to whether I should finish work at 30 weeks. I am currently 30 weeks pregnant and have been off work already since 28 weeks really struggling with getting my gestational diabetes under control and feel constantly drained with no energy with pregnancy problems. I work 30 hours on my feet & really can't face going back to work as I am finishing on 22 December anyway. Am supposed to be back in at weekend or should I bite the bullet & get another sick note until my mat leave starts x any advice greatly appreciated x thanks x

Gosh, you poor thing. I hope you have been able to put your feet up during this time off work. Could you make an appointment with the GP to get her/his advice based on how you currently are? It sounds to me as if the same problems that got you signed off would be there still, so really I think it sounds like you would be completely reasonable to stay signed off work (unless your role could be significantly adjusted, on the Doctor’s advice, to meet your needs). The only consideration is if there are financial implications that would cause you further stress; but ultimately remember the health of you and your baby is the most important thing. Good luck!

It depends if you feel able to do your job? That’s the ultimate question.
I’m 26 weeks pregnant, work days and nights (13hr shifts), on my feet the entire shift, bar a 30 minute break, in a very high stress environment. At the moment I’m managing, just!
I find I just sleep/eat on my days off, to prepare for the next shift. But im coping. If you’re not, then get yourself a sick note if a GP feels that’s appropriate.
I know it’s difficult, you feel guilty and silly, but pregnancy is hard!

I think it depends on how long you're planning to have off, as the finances. Personally, I'd get a sick note for that period and then take maternity leave as planned.
