how to “hide” early pregnancy over the Christmas period?

I found out I was pregnant last week, very exciting BUT during the run upto Christmas there’s also a big family birthday to celebrate and a girls trip away, and drinking will be involved, they’ve already told me what they’ve bought to drink for the train ride!
I don’t drink a lot anyway, but on “special” occasions I would have a glass with everyone just to be polite and celebrate, I don’t want to be questioned as to why I’m not having a drink with everyone as I’m sure my mum will guess straight away, she literally asked me a day after taking the HPT if i was pregnant!! I told her no, as we want to wait until i’m 12 weeks (I told her early when I was pregnant with my DS four years ago and she told other people which I don’t want her to do this time!) but I swear she just knows these things!

Obviously I’m not going to have a drink, but I feel like i need to be prepared with some excuses as to why I don’t want to have one for the entire Christmas period with out raising any suspicions?!

I think that a bit less obvious than the antibiotics excuse is to say that you've been having bad insomnia and the doctor told you not to drink because it makes it worse. The bonus of this is it also explains not drinking caffeine, if you're avoiding it, and also why you might be a lot more tired and less up for a very late night than usual.

These excuses don’t work: fake drinking works better than the others IME but many people will quickly guess. Your DM will definitely guess. If they are polite they will say nothing, but many people are not polite! So suggest you be prepared for word to get out sooner than you would like.

Just say 'yes please,' and take the drink but also say you're thirsty and want a soft drink too. Drink the soft drink and just hold onto the alcohol. No one will notice.

I think you have two options; fake drink or fake illness. If you go for the latter you could say you have a urine or kidney infection so can't drink anything other than water.

Good luck, and congrats

People with eagle eyes are wise to fake drinking. I am, but would never say anything as not anyone else’s business!

tonic with bitters is literally almost exactly like a G&T and smells like one too.

Angostura bitters? I'm pretty sure they are alcoholic. Apologies if you mean something else.

Angostura bitters? I'm pretty sure they are alcoholic.

They are but you add literally two or three drops so the resulting drink ends up about as alcoholic as an orange juice.

Just declare yourself the designated driver, that’s what I always did. Although I vomited lots and lots which gave it away to anyone I spent much time with.

Did anyone watch cyote ugly? The ladies took a shit then spat it into a beer bottle they pretened to chase it with. Maybe you could feign thirst so have a can of sprite to drink then move onto the champas and spit it into the can - no idea if this works and might take some practice beforehand!

Grin typo

I’m in exactly the same boat and I do like a party so people will guess straight away!

*Work Christmas do - I’m going to start complaining a few days before of symptoms of a water infection then “go to the doctor” after work one night. Antibiotics = no drinking.

*At the pub - drink soda and lime instead of usual gin, soda and lime. Everyone else will be too pissed to notice.

*Out with extended family for meals - designated driver.

Hope you don’t get caught out! Houston think of how smug you’ll be the next morning when everyone else has their hangovers and you don’t! Smile

Just think, even!
