Oh I know this is waayyyy TMI but PLEASE tell me this is normal before I talk myself into a state (which is not hard!!)

I'm having stabbing pains in my vagina/cervix. It's on the inside, feels like someone is stabbing my foofoo with a knitting needle. I googled it and it could be cervix dilating??? I'm only 23+1 Sad

No bleeding, no other pain, but this awful awful stabby pain!

They're Fanny daggers. I get them all the time. Or it could be baby kicking your cervix. How delightful is pregnancy hey!

MessyHairDontCare88 · 26/11/2017 20:10

Completely normal :) The bad news is I've had them since around 28wks and I'm now 39+2

Smarshian · 26/11/2017 20:11

Yep totally normal - fanny daggers! They are a delight!

Vintagegoth · 26/11/2017 20:11

Had a similar pain when my DD was kicking / punching my cervix, although this was later in pregnancy. If you are at all concerned call the hospital number at the front of your pink notes and they can give you advice.

sunnywithadashofgin · 26/11/2017 20:11

Ahh lightening crotch. I had this early on with my first. It was awful but I think it was just pressure from baby's head wherever it was sitting. If you are anxious though ring your midwife so they can reassure you.

Hannabee123 · 26/11/2017 20:12

Sounds like a case of fanny daggers it's fairly normal I've had them on and off since 20 weeks
If you are worried speak to your midwife and check for any changes but I know loads of women who suffer with this in my antenatal class too

EmmaHealy23 · 26/11/2017 20:12

Fanny Daggers?!?!?! They have a name??? So I'm not going into premature labour?

Geez why didn't my midwife warn me about them???

Would the baby be able to kick and me feel it like that this early?

Phew! Haha fanny daggers, that's killed me!!!

Ah the lovely fanny daggers! I endured it for the third trimester, sometimes they caught me so much by surprise I'd jump like I'd been electrocuted.

thegamblersmrs · 26/11/2017 20:13

Not had the front one but anyone had the shooting ones up the rear? Holy shmokes they catch you off guard!

YouCantArgueWithStupid · 26/11/2017 20:17

Arse daggers are far worse! They've eased of in the second trimester but at a family dinner today I shot out of my chair with Fanny daggers!

EmmaHealy23 · 26/11/2017 20:17

Oh girls you have made me feel so much better, I'd worked myself up into a Right old state.

I'll deffo ask my midwife just to make sure but I didn't want to make the trip to labour triage as it's a minimum 5 hour wait.

Gosh that scared the life out of me.

But again...FANNY DAGGERS!!!! What an absolute perfect way to describe them!!

From a hyper anxious FTM thank you!!

Yeah there's different types you've got:
Fanny daggers
Lightening crotch
Cricket bat fanny
Javelin arse

I'm 36 weeks and drift between fanny daggers and cricket bat fanny 😂😂 I was never warned either but as long as there's no bleeding or anything it's normal to feel sore and stabby sometimes

StylishDuck · 26/11/2017 20:18

Yep fanny daggers or lightening crotch. Delightful part of pregnancy. Catch you completely unawares and take your breath away. Completely normal though Grin

EmmaHealy23 · 26/11/2017 20:21

I'm going to make sure I specifically call them fanny and arse daggers tomorrow when I call the midwife GrinGrinGrin

Gosh this is all new to me!!

Literally nobody has ever mentioned this to me before....one of the less glamorous pregnancy symptoms haha xx

Oh my god I'm so glad I've seen this post. I'm 28 weeks and also been getting fanny daggers, although I'd been referring to them as "stabby foof pains" to my other half 😂😂😂 Now I know! X

EmmaHealy23 · 26/11/2017 22:25

I know....and javelin arse!!!!!

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 26/11/2017 22:50

Ah, I'd forgotten all about fanny daggers!!!
I read that it's caused by the baby putting pressure on the cervix, either by lying on it or kicking it. Mine went right back to my bum. Started at about 20 weeks and lasted until labour. Nothing to worry about, but not something I was told about in NCT Grin
