What counts as a movement?!?

Hi. I'm currently 28 wks and think I've been feeling the baby move less recently. I'm not sure whether or not to worry (all the info I can find either suggests this is totally normal or says it is a sign that stillbirth is imminent!). My pregnancy book tells me that by this stage I should be feeling about 10 movements a day and various internet sites seem to say the same thing.

My question is what counts as a movement? Is it each episode of movement or each individual movement? I probably notice two or three bouts of several movements each day but so if it's the latter then it's fine but I definitely don't have 10 separate occasions when I feel the baby moving around.

Hope that makes sense....

If you are worried, have a chat with your midwife.

My opinion (fwiw) is that it is each individual movement, so if baby is asleep for hours, but then wakes up and kicks you ten times in half an hour, that is ten movements.

At 28 weeks, baby is getting quite big and you won't notice the same kind of movements that you did previously.

Again, though, if you are worried about anything, have a chat with the mw.

My midwife told me that even if you get your 10 movements all at once, they count. I found with my DS, there was hardly anything all day then loads in the evening.

If you are worried, ring your midwife. They will be happy to reassure and/or check the heartbeat.

Mine goes through stages where it will be really active for a couple of days and then have a really quiet day. If you are worried definitely talk to your MW- that is what they are there for. One thing I have learnt in pregnancy is to stop looking up thing on the internet- a lot of the times you will find 'horror stories' which are actually rare in real life- they seem more common and likely when you see 10 of them in a list on google or something! Take care- I'm sure everything is fine.

(By the way, I'd count each individual movement as 1. Remember that at this stage your baby is sleeping about 18 hours and awake for 6....

fibbertygibbert - that's apparently because you walk around all day, it lulls the baby to sleep, then in the evening you're knackered and sit or lie down, so baby wakes up and plays football!

I always thought each individual movement. I think the baby starts running out of room though so can't move as much.

Aha Squonk, I thought he was being vindictive and kicking my bladder for fun! (you must be right cos now I've met him, he's an angeL)

They use your bladder to practice their penalties

I got to 36/7 weeks and barely felt a thing, so little I just assumed it was wind, so I wouldn't worry tbh!

Great thanks! If it's 10 individual movements that's fine. Just slightly paranoid as had a small bleed last week (though had that checked at hospital and all was fine then).

Seeing midwife on Fri so will mention it then.
