Any positive stories about induction

Hi all, I'm currently 40 weeks plus 4 days pregnant with my first baby. It was an IVF conception. I'm very fed up and so ready to have baby out safely. Got a sweep booked today but I want to ask to book in for an induction but everyone talks about inductions being awful. But I'm worried if baby stays in there he/she isn't safe either, I'm struggling with the movements, they are still there but there's no room, stomach is so hard I really just feel the baby might be safer out now. But after planning to beg for induction now all I'm hearing is horror stories about inductions. Any advice? Personal experiences? Thanks

Bumping for you OP.
Unfortunately no advice here as a newbie to pregnancy myself but have been on the hyperemesis thread on mumsnet since the beginning and have heard of a couple of my hyperemesis sisters which honestly didn't sound so bad.
Hoping someone with experience comes along to put your mind at ease.
Goodluck!

I was induced with my first and went into labour spontaneously with my second. I can honestly say that my labour when induced was no worse than going into labour spontaneously. In fact both were a lovely positive experience. People always seem to have horror stories about induction, but that wasn't my experience at all.
Good luck with whatever you choose.

I was induced with my daughter at 35 weeks. It was ok, I don't have any thing to compare it to though!

The only problem with induction threads is that they are really anecdotal. So you'll get people like me who's experience was fine, and then people who had a tough time saying they'd never do it and you should 'demand' a c section. If you are anxious, which is understandable I imagine following IVF id speak to your midwife about your concerns and see what she recommends and why, based on your medical needs. She can tell you much more than some posters online 😊 good luck!

I don't have a horror story, although it wasn't massively positive, so maybe somewhere in the middle? I was induced at 38 weeks for GD, and I had no signs whatsoever that I was anywhere near labour so it was 24 hours with the pessaries doing absolutely nothing before they could break my waters and get things going.

The syntocin drip is hard. I felt I didn't have time to get used to contractions before they were there in full force. And having a canula in makes it difficult to get comfortable and the monitoring means it's harder to change positions. I ended up getting an epidural which was the best thing I could have done and meant I slept from 3cm to fully dilated, then another hour, then only needed 20 minutes of pushing for my DD to be born.

However the other 4 women who were brought in for induction at the same time as me who were all due date or beyond had all had their babies by the time I was even able to have my waters broken. I don't think it has to be such a long drawn out process as mine was, it probably depends how close you are to going into labour naturally.

Had one in June. Was great. My first was a spontaneous labour which was agony for 3 days, the induction was 6 hrs, only gas and air and home the same day.

I had a lovely induction at 40+16 with my first. No pain relief other than heat pack on my back.

Had ARM and then drip straight away. Was only 5 hours. All in all, looking forward to doing it again any day now!

I was induced with my youngest at 41 weeks, they gave me a pessary and that was it thankfully. Had my show a couple of hours later and steadily began labour... it was a good labour and birth. my first was natural onset labour and much much much longer. My first was about 36 hours and my second was about 20 from pessary to baby

I was induced with drip 7 weeks ago and it was nothing but positive. Induced at half 9, 7cm by half 2 and full dilated by 8pm. Started pushing at 9 and DS was born at 9.30pm exactly!

I did have an epidural about half 2 which may be why it was such a lovely experience as I slept through the rest of it! I ended up getting an infection and DS got sepsis but that was nothing to do with being induced. Smile

I had a really positive experience, even though it took a while to get going. Ivf baby here too and induced at 38 weeks due to reduced movement. Ended up having pessary and 3 gels over 48 hours which sounds awful but I had no pain at all during that time so myself and DH just hung out really, watched boxsets in iPad, walked a lot, went for lunch, it was a really lovely few days! The only thing was once they broke my waters things kicked off pretty quick, my baby was born 2 hours later and there wasn’t time for an epidural! Really really positive experience though, hopefully if you get induced you’ll have one too. Good luck!

Been induced with both my boys.

First - although long labour - 15 hours - started contracting after half hour of pessary being in, had a lovely, active, relaxed birth - hypnobirthing. Easy peasy.

Second had ARM and the drip, a lot quicker 2 hours start to finish.
I agree with a previous poster that the drip is hard work but once things get going on that it's usually quite quick.
