Hi, I suffer from eczema and always took Cetirizine for my itchy skin, but simce pregnant ive laid of them its really flaring up at the moment so could do with taking an odd 1 as it's disturbing my sleep. Has anyone else taken them during pregnancy? Do you know if it's safe? X

I did for a few days because I couldn’t manage without. I just kept it to the absolute minimum. I asked the midwife who said I could if necessary. She tried to steer me towards some herbal stuff but I knew that wouldn’t work.

TheWiseOldElf · 21/11/2017 17:55

Quick google confirms. Also, fwiw I was very early on, about 8-9 weeks.

Perhaps ask a pharmacist.

Loratidine and cetirizine are both ok. I'll find the link

I took both in early pregnancy with no problems.

I was prescribed chlorphenamine, I think every doctor/midwife etc will try to advise against any medication unless necessary but my allergies get really bad (normally take phenerghan) and that's what they advised me to take, do check with your midwife or gp though!

It's grim isn't it? Have you got a decent emollient? Try keeping it in the fridge?
I also use aqueous cream to wash when mine flares.

Ame80 · 21/11/2017 18:23

I have Dermot and double base but not really helping with the itch. I really am struggling at the moment! Will get some aqueous and see if that helps. Thanks for your advice x

Don't use the aqueous as a cream. It's a soap substitute only. My kids get on well with dermol and my mum with double base but only diprobase works for me. Much creamier cream!
Worth asking GP about a steroid cream? That's the only thing that really gets mine back under control when it's bad but not sure about in pregnancy.

Ame80 · 21/11/2017 18:33

I have lots I've Betnovate here but that also says not to use during pregnancy 😔

Isn't hydrocortisone the least strong?
Not a medic!

Wolfiefan · 21/11/2017 18:38

Ooo. Have a look on NHS website. Suggests most steroid creams ok I'm pregnancy. Maybe check with phamacist or GP (I was neurotic in pregnancy!)

Ame80 · 21/11/2017 18:39

I think that's still not to be used. Will try to get to see my GP hopefully they can give me something x
