Weight Gain at 36 weeks

Hi all,

Posting as I just feel a bit disheartened after my 36 week MW appt today. She weighed me and I've gained 13kg in pregnancy Blush

She tried to refer me to 'BMI clinic' but it's full so she said just need to watch what I'm eating in next few weeks which is fair enough.

What's upset me though is she said it could effect my birth plan. I'm midwife led at the moment and she said my BMI could result in me moving to consultant led. I've got my heart set on trying for a water birth.

It's the second time she's ever weighed me so feel likes it's been sprung on me a bit. Baby is measuring perfect - it's just me who has gained too much weight. I don't actually feel that big though and everyone has commented on how neatly I'm carrying.

Anyone else have experience of being told off so far along but had a natural MLU birth?

Xx

I’ve never been weighed since the first app. It’s all for the safety of you and your baby, try not to be too disheartened. X

I’ve not been weighed at all and I started at an overweight bmi. 2 stones seems like a modest weight gain x

Bloody hell, I gained four stone in my first pregnancy, was massive, and nobody mentioned it. Carried on being midwife led, despite by bmi going to 31.
I wouldn't worry.

What was your starting weight? I put on more than that overall but started with a low BMI so I think it’s your actual weight that matters, rather than the gain per se

I put on 25kg Confused I was only weighed at booking in though, they didn't weigh me again, was your bmi pretty standard at booking in?

Lou1989 · 20/11/2017 20:08

Thanks for your comments. Going to try and not worry. My start weight was probably around 11.5 stone and I'm around 5.6. I've always carried a lot of weight on my boobs (I was a 36G before I got pregnant) so didn't ever really feel 'overweight'...looking back now I think I actually had quite a nice figure Wink

I've only been weighed at my booking in appointment and I'm now 35 weeks 2 days. Not sure if I will get a weighed at my 36 week app next week?

I was weighed at booking and had a bmi of 35.1 which put me straight into consultant are. I almost cried when they said I wouldn't be able to have midwife led unit, then did cry when they said I'd be unlikely to have a water birth (I'm much bigger than you) I'm otherwise healthy, great blood pressure, blood sugars etc.

At my 25week appointment today, with a different midwife, she told me that I would be weighed at 36 weeks and if my BMi was less than 40 I weight be able to go for midwife unit if the consultant is happy. Basically she said to wait and see.

I am extremely anxious about being in the delivery suite (I'm trying to pinpoint why) but think it's because I'd like to stay as natural as possible and don't want to feel forced into a more medical birth if I can help it.

I'm going to tour both the MLU and delivery suite so I can manage my expectations and my anxiety about the whole thing.

Fingers crossed for you and your water birth! Smile

Forgot to say I've not been weighed at either midwife appt since, or the consultant appt I had a few weeks back.

I’m 13 weeks and so far been weighed twice, once at booking and one after my scan, but I’m overweight. I lost 15lbs from 9-12 weeks but they weren’t concerned, didn’t even mention it in fact.
During my first pregnancy I went from 115lbs to 190lbs Blush and had a perfectly normal delivery and healthy baby... I just absolutely WHALED out. I’m heavier than that at my starting weight this time but I’m still pretty confident I can have a healthy delivery as long as I don’t whale out this time!
I honestly wouldn’t worry about your weight gain at all, unless the midwife has reason for the worry
