Congratulations on your pregnancy!

The midwife will likely ask you lots of questions about your current situation, any previous pregnancies, living arrangements etc.

I can’t fully remember what they do in terms of testing at this stage - blood pressure, urine, bloods maybe?

And this appointment will also trigger your 12 week scan which midwife should arrange and you’ll get a letter in the post.

Awwww first of all congratulations.
First midwife appointment consists is usually about half an hour. You’ll be given a pregnancy folder which will be filled up with notes regarding you and baby over the course of your pregnancy. (This folder will have to come with you at every pregnancy related appointment)
You will be weighed, have to do a urine test, blood pressure etc
You will have the chance to talk about any questions you may have
She will get you booked in to your hospital of choice for further appointments/scans etc.
You’ll be given contact numbers for the ppl in charge of your care plan so if any problems arise you can contact them directly

my first midwife appointment was 1.5 hours and included bloods being taken, but that accounted for about 15 minutes because my veins apparently don't exist according to the midwives (very deep and hate being used).

JoJoSM2 · 19/11/2017 22:13

Just had mine today and it was 1.5h Lots of medical and non-medical questions, urine sample and a referral for blood tests.

bathandpjs · 19/11/2017 22:17

I've not had my appointment yet but I have had my letter which says its 1.5 hours long.

Thanks for posting this topic as I was also wondering what will happen.

gamerchick · 19/11/2017 22:19

Long, dull and filled with form filling. Maybe being weighed.

That’s it.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

scoutcat · 19/11/2017 23:47

Mine was over an hour. Questions about me, my family and my partner (who I brought along with me). Then, a CO test, blood pressure, urine test, blood test, BMI check. She gave us lots of contact numbers and information. Also, depending on your area you might not get your notes (my area are paperless so they’re all online) but I did get a folder with information and a form to take to my 12 week scan inside.
My midwife also booked my 12 week scan there and then on the phone so I left knowing exactly when I’d see my baby!

She will ask about your medical history, your partners also. Ask about any previous pregnancies, d

Mine was about 1.5 hours long.
A lot of questions about my history, medical background, family history etc
A lot of form filling.
Some information given about pregnancy.
Blood tests and urine samples.

I took my DP but as I knew the info about his family's history, there wasn't really any need for him to be there.

Congrats on your pregnancy!!!

hellybellyjellybean · 20/11/2017 17:16

And thanks for the congratulations! Trying to keep and calm struggling!!

Yeah, they;ll ask for medical history - especially any at-birth issues or birth defects. If you don't know, it's not the end of the world, it might be worth ringing a parent or sibling or someone who might know!

They'll want the same from the baby's dad too.

GeekyBlinders · 23/11/2017 15:52

She'll also ask about your relationship with your partner - some men become abusive (or step up their abuse) when their partner gets pregnant, so it's a good opportunity to tell someone if that is going on.

I had mine yesterday, was only about half an hour long. They took a medical history and things like first date of last period, what hospital I want to go to. They just said I would hear in about 2 weeks from the hospital and then I would get a booking in appointment, I assume that will be the stuff like you all mentioned, and then the scan. Thanks for all the info, I was prepared to be asked loads more than I was so was a bit surprised it was so brief really!
