Anyone else finding it really difficult to survive without coffee?

You don't need to go without. Either limit coffee with caffeine or use caffeine free or a mix

MrsStinkey · 19/11/2017 13:01

I still drank coffee whilst pregnant both times and have two healthy children. Just a cup or 2 a day as I would usually drink. You don't have to cut it out completely!

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 19/11/2017 13:09

You really don't have to do without coffee. The limit its suggested you stay under is really quite high.

Fannyfanakerpants · 19/11/2017 13:12

I'm currently sat drinking a filter coffee. I went off it with my first 2 but havent this time so there's no way i'm giving one cup a day up (a big reduction from pre pregnancy).

Oysterbabe · 19/11/2017 13:17

I haven't given up coffee.

AnxietyForever · 19/11/2017 13:41

I still drink 1 or 2 cups a day

peachesarenom · 19/11/2017 13:50

Ah thanks! I couldn't get my head around the limit so I just switched to two mugs of tea a day. Coffee here I come!

Coffee tasted horrible during both my pregnancies, so not difficult to give it up.

dementedpixie · 19/11/2017 14:08

Tea has caffeine too, just a little less

TriJo · 19/11/2017 14:13

I've had an aversion to coffee both times until around 15 weeks but no issues after that. Tea and coke are both lower in caffeine if you still need the go-juice!

You can have 200mg caffeine a day safely anyway. Plan within that and you'll be fine.

teabagfreak · 19/11/2017 14:13

I’m struggling to cut back on cups of tea, I normally have around 7-8 cups a day (especially on a working day) Now try to have about 4.

Prepregnancy used to like an odd coffee but the smell turns my stomach now 😳

CL1982 · 19/11/2017 16:09

I'm loving my coffee. I have one cup a day if it's good coffee and then have a cuppa tea and switch to decaf :) Enjoy!!

MagicMoneyTree · 19/11/2017 16:13

teabagfreak can’t you just switch to decaf? I’m a total tea addict and decaf tea tastes pretty similar to the normal stuff to me. Aldi and Asda are both perfectly pleasant.

Yika · 19/11/2017 16:41

I drank tons of coffee when pregnant, didn't go off it at all :) had an easy pregnancy and healthy baby!

MagicMoneyTree · 19/11/2017 17:17

Yika that’s great for you, but it’s a bit like saying you smoked the whole time and your kid doesn’t have asthma. A single person’s experience isn’t really the same as actual research-based evidence. NHS guidance is still to limit caffeine in order to reduce the risk of an underweight baby.

Note: not saying drinking coffee and smoking are the same, just using a “things to avoid + reasons why” analogy.

teabagfreak · 19/11/2017 18:03

I have tried to decaf tea and it’s pretty decent. Will need to get some for my work actually 👍

LadyRenoir · 19/11/2017 19:07

@MagicMoneyTree I am in the same boat as teabagfreak. I used to drink 6-8 cups a day. The decaf variations to me have always tasted quite gross or tasteless unfortunately. I do taste a big difference. Nothing can replace a nice cup of special tea :(

Switched to rooibos for now, and some herbal teas, but yeah, it's a bit of a challenge.

Fannyfanakerpants · 20/11/2017 12:46

The Dragonfly Earl Grey Rooibus is lovely.

BrioAmio · 20/11/2017 12:48

I went off tea and started drinking coffee when pregnant, a couple of lattes a day ‘should’ be within the safe guidelines.

GiveMeStrengh · 20/11/2017 13:17

I never gave up coffee, I would have up to 8 cups (one the hour, every hour!) on a working day and a couple more after at home I just made them weaker (half a teaspoon coffee and loads of milk - like it makes any difference haha) and would swap out for decaff half the time.

squizita · 21/11/2017 19:48

1 x coffee.
The rest decaff (the posher the decaff the more like real it tastes) or rebush.

Might not pass the "scaremongering sanctimonious Internet poster" test but crucially passed the leading anti miscarriage consultant in the leading anti miscarriage unit in the uk bearing in mind I am a recurrent miscarried with APS test.

In fact they (well the MH nurse on the team, with the consultant in the room nodding) suggested I be brave enough to have some coffee in terms of not letting my ante natal anxiety control me, so that I could still make accurate risk based decisions AND because I was making choices based on ableist judgements about what someone like me "should" do, rather than medical knowledge. Partly down to some dickheads online I must say.

The decaff needs to be top dollar though.

LittleWitch · 21/11/2017 19:51

fanny Rooibos is caffeine free but does contain a natural stimulant which some people may like to avoid.
