I had high BP from 32 weeks of my 1st pregnancy I was put on labetalol and monitored closely and after a few hospital admissions i got to due date had healthy baby 8lb 6oz. I'm really worried that it will happen earlier this time and what will happen does anyone have experience of this at all? How was your 2nd pregnancy?

I’m in the same boat so watching this thread with interest albeit my first DC was a big baby (10lbs 13oz!) so I’m putting the high blood pressure down to that (well thats what I keep telling myself anyway 😬)

Both my pregnancies were a bit complicated but it was only second time around that I developed high bp. Like OP, I was put on Labetalol, which seemed to control it well initially, but I was induced at 37 weeks due to PreEclampsia. I'd be interested to know if having had it before just increases your chances of having it again, or whether it's almost guaranteed as DH are trying for one more to complete our family. Again, like you OP, I wonder if it's almost a certainty that I'd develop it again if I did become pregnant, and if so, if it would be earlier and/or worse than before. I hope you don't mind if I watch this thread OP.

I had pre eclampsia with my 3 year old and was induced at 35 weeks. I'm only 15 weeks in with this one so I don't know the final plan but I imagine they'll keep a close eye on you and Medicate if necessary. I'm on low dose aspirin so that might be something they do too (although that might just be for PE). Having complications in one pregnancy does mean more monitoring next time round but it's not definite that the same thing will happen again at all.

I have had hbp in all 3 of my pregnancies. This time around (4th) I've been on low dose aspirin and yesterday at my 36 week appointment my bp was perfect!

I'm on asprin from 12 weeks just started them. I'm just so worried we may not make it to term this time if it starts earlier. My consultant said I had mild pre eclempsia but my GP said he believes it was just PIH as I only had trace of protein in my urine twice so I'm unsure what to think Confused

First pregnancy i was in hoslital from 32 weeks.with bp in the 90s. The didnt medicate in those days (ds now 22). I was induced at 38 weeks when bp went up to 125 and i had protein in my urine. Ds was born 6lb 7.
Exactly 2 years later i had dd. Everything fine up to 37 weeks wherr slightly raised bp, but not worried as i had cold. She was born spontanelusly 2 days later same weight as ds.

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2017 07:37

I had high bp from about 20 weeks in both my pregnancies. I took labatalol and had sticks to test my urine for protein every day at home.

I had two spontaneous and trouble free births, one on due date, one 4 days late.

The urine testing sticks were a godsend. I had a big box of them and occasionally quite oiften tested several times a day.....

Bertr thats good to know thankyou! Did you get the dips ticks yourself or did hospital provide them?

Forgot to say i had oedema as well with ds and it was the diastolic bp that went between 90 and 125.

BertrandRussell · 18/11/2017 10:42

Bippety, I had a slightly maverick nidwifw with dd who just handed them over. With ds I was ....assertive....until they gave them to me. I had regular bp checks as well, but the labetalol kept it in check.

I'm worried about this too. I had high BP from about 25 weeks with my 1st and was medicated towards the end of my pregnancy. Had a normal spontaneous birth but full term dc had quite a low birthweight, not sure if that was related? The worst thing was having to stay on the ward for a couple of days so they could monitor my BP while I was desperate to get home. I've opted for a home birth this time and the midwife is supportive but has warned me that it may not be possible if BP is really high again.

I'm only 12 weeks but due at the BP clinic in a couple of weeks. I'm really hoping to avoid the 24 hour urine collection this time, it wasn't too fun carting around a huge container of wee for a whole day!!

Bippitybopityboo · 18/11/2017 18:15

Elizabeth I'm 12 weeks 4 days too. I was admitted twice for bp and they upped my meds 2nd time and then had baby on due date I'm just really not wanting to be admitted and have to leave my little boy at home Sad
This is definitely our last baby the worry is awful!

This thread is really interesting. My BP was borderline until I went into labour when it went up and they started medicating me. Was in hospital for a week as DS was poorly and I'd had emcs then home for 2 nights before being re-admitted with BP through the roof even though I was already on labetalol. I had a terrible headache that painkillers didn't touch and called postnatal and they got me back in as a precaution, the midwife practically ran to get a doctor when they took my BP on arrival whilst I sad sobbing trying to breastfeed DS whilst feeling like my head would explode!

I spoke to my GP and asked to be put in touch with someone to discuss BP, the birth etc before we start TTC no 2 and I'm waiting on a call from the hospital. I'll let everyone knows if it throws up anything of interest!

Btw op, I have urine dipstick tests that I bought on eBay - £6 and they've lasted the entire pregnancy. I would get those and a bp monitor - they help me feel a bit more in control.

Bippitybopityboo · 19/11/2017 09:27

tangina yes definitely will get those good idea!
