Yes. Most salons / spas / massage therapists aren't allowed to do treatments on anyone under 12 weeks as insurance doesn't cover. I would ask before Saturday just to check x

ICanNeverThinkOfAGoodUsrname · 16/11/2017 20:29

Yes, tell them as they'll need to know to exclude certain aromatherapy oils.

CremeDeSudo · 16/11/2017 21:33

Phew glad I asked now! Will see what other treatments I can have.. Thank you both

Yes, I stupidly went ahead and had it done at 8 weeks and nearly fainted, all that extra blood going around your body and the stimulation from the massage can have that effect. Was fine when I had one later on in pregnancy

Mrstobe90 · 17/11/2017 07:48

Yes definitely tell them. Some essential oils can trigger MC so most masseurs won’t go near you until you’re at least 12 weeks.
I got pregnant just before my hen do (spa day with the girls) and they literally would only give me a hand rub lol

PotteringAlong · 17/11/2017 07:49

Yes. And I imagine they won't treat you.

Mascarawandlady · 17/11/2017 07:59

I'm a beauty therapist and I wouldn't do any massage type treatments on a lady under 12 weeks pregnant.
To be honest the likelihood of a massage (using a plain carrier oil) causing a mc is low but it is advised to avoid.

CremeDeSudo · 17/11/2017 09:03

What about foot and leg massage?

I just wouldn't tell them. You can't cause a miscarriage having a massage. Certain oils can apparently induce miscarriage, but I'm highly sceptical of that too.

PotteringAlong · 17/11/2017 09:12

No. They won't do any massage under 12 weeks.

CremeDeSudo · 17/11/2017 09:25

I wasn't going to but I had a MMC earlier this year so I can't take the chance. Surely feet are Ok?

@CremeDeSudo if they won't do a neck and shoulder massage then they won't do any form of massage - especially not feet, as the feet have pressure points for inducing labour. Doctors say there is no risk but as I said, insurance companies usually don't cover therapists, regardless of what type of oils are used. The only treatments I will do on someone under 12 weeks is a basic manicure or pedicure (without massage). Personally I don't think its worth the risk.

Mascarawandlady · 17/11/2017 11:57

You could have a set of gel nails. Then you could admire them for a few weeks.

CremeDeSudo · 17/11/2017 12:18

They said a gentle foot and leg is fine and I'm having a facial instead of the neck and shoulder rub.

I had no idea! So glad I asked!!

Im only 8 weeks and had a back, neck and shoulder massage a couple of weeks ago. It was fine there were just certain aromatherapy oils they couldn't use and i was advised not to use sauna, syeam rooms and hot tub!! :)

ForeverHopeful21 · 17/11/2017 16:48

Glad you got it sorted. I'm surprised they'll still do a facial though when a large part of a facial includes massage of the face, neck, décolleté and shoulders. However, I'm even more surprised that they would offer you a foot massage?! I've never worked anywhere that would offer such treatments to anyone under 12 weeks. How interesting.
