Eating like crap

Anyone else struggling to eat well in the 1st trimester? I’m nearly 9 weeks and all I want to eat is carbs and bland food 😩 feeling guilty about a lack of veg and colour in my diet at the moment...

Me. Had bad sickness (just starting to ease off now) and ate whatever I could face each day. Sometimes that was nothing. Sometimes crisps and lemonade.

Healthier things that I could (sometimes) stomach included mango, fruit smoothies...not much else really.

I think it's common so try not to beat yourself up

PJsAndProsecco · 16/11/2017 18:55

I was like this last time too so I know it’s not forever but smoothies are a great idea to get some colour and fruit in there!

The same, all I want is carbs carbs and carbs! I have always loved vegetables but now just can’t face then I’m trying to eat well but I just can’t! I hope it passes soon!

thepatchworkcat · 16/11/2017 19:09

I’m eating utter crap, I feel sick all the time. Same in previous pregnancy and baby turned out fine so I’m not worrying! Today I’ve had Coke, tortilla chips, sweet waffles and pasta with cheese.

I'm 10 weeks and I can barely manage anything. I have sickness everyday all day and the thought of food makes me feel worse. Dry food is ok but still repeats on me I'm starting to feel the downfalls as I'm constantly drained and exhausted resulting in me not having energy to cook which puts me worth off. Angry

Olivetappas · 16/11/2017 19:12

Which makes me worse off *

AnonEvent · 16/11/2017 19:13

In my first trimester I ate nothing but M&S ham and mustard sandwiches, they were the only food I could face. Brocolli (usually a favourite) tasted of actual dirt.

In my second trimester I ate at least a punnet of soft fruit an three bowls of Cheerios a day, so was at least getting some nutrients.

In my third trimester, I ate normally but had the overwhelming craving for red wine. And as I didn't drink a drop in my first or second trimesters I couldn't even have half a glass in my third as I'd have got tipsy (which even if not a risk to the baby would have felt very perilous being heavily pregnant)

BunnyFluffy · 16/11/2017 19:13

Oh also tinned pears and tinned mandarins have been ok. I get the ones in fruit juice rather than syrup and I think they count as one of your five a day

Bubblesblue · 16/11/2017 19:19

I've just started eating normally again at 27 weeks. Well, almost normally - still avoiding most meats!

PerditaNitt · 16/11/2017 19:25

I’m with you. I’m 7 weeks and all I want is carbs and sleep. Jacket potatoes, toast, cereal, etc. I was the same during my first pregnancy but after 12 weeks all I wanted was fruit and salad, so I’m counting on that happening again to balance the “beige food” months! I’m less prone to sickness in the morning so that is when I try to have something less carbs, so maybe you also try experiment at different times of day

BunnyFluffy · 16/11/2017 19:26

Also porridge has been my saviour - it's still beige but not too unhealthy at least!

Lilleahw · 16/11/2017 20:59

White bread and biscuits is all I want. Glad it's not just me lol

mindutopia · 16/11/2017 21:03

It's absolutely fine. It really doesn't matter. Just take a good quality pregnancy vitamin. It will get much easier soon and you'll be back to eating normal things again. My first pregnancy I survived mostly on buttered bagels and fruit. This time I had several weeks of eating packets of sour gummy sweets every day. By 14 weeks, I felt much better.

PJsAndProsecco · 17/11/2017 07:25

I’m so glad I’m not alone! I am taking a vitamin every day and having porridge in the mornings so it’s not all awful stuff. Hubby is also making me a smoothie this morning so I’ll get a decent dose of fruit in a form I can handle!

I was all about beige carbs and chocolate.
Especially potatoes and bread.

At 12 weeks I'm still pretty much the same, have been buying green smoothies though to try and get something into my diet.

buzzbuzzbumblebee · 17/11/2017 16:03

I’ll be 20 weeks tomorrow and I’m still struggling with eating! I’m still being sick at least once a day and feeling nauseous occasionally. I’ve gone off most food I liked and I’m really fussy so basically living off plain pasta and stir fry!

I’ve actually lost 4.5lb since being pregnant because I’m just not eating as much! Stuffing my face with chocolate etc at night though!!

MarmiteAndPB · 17/11/2017 16:09

Watch out with the smoothies! I was exactly the same in first trimester - throwing up all the time and only managing toast and crisps - and I remember one day managing to drink a glass of apple juice and being so, so pleased that I'd consumed something even remotely related to fruit/vegetables. I even called up DH to brag about how well I'd done! Then half an hour later I threw it back up with a vengeance.

Farrar · 17/11/2017 16:12

I’m 6+5 and I don’t have anything like this. I’ve just carried on eating as I would normally. I’ve not got any aversion to food or any sickness either, the only thing I’ve got is sore boobs and stomach cramps! I feel I’m missing out on the beige food Grin. I do go to Florida 12 weeks after due date though so maybe my mind is just being conscious of that!

Olivelor · 17/11/2017 16:13

Until I was around 9 weeks, I couldn't eat anything and was getting sick every time. I was looking like a zombie and ended up in hospital too.
Now over 24 weeks, I am so glad I could eat anything now and catching up for the lost time. these days. Wink

Penguin27 · 17/11/2017 17:14

Me - no sickness and in the third trimester but I still can’t bring myself to eat proper food as often as I should. Feel very guilty about this though Sad

PJsAndProsecco · 17/11/2017 17:26

@MarmiteAndPB I managed the smoothie fine 👍 thankfully I’m not throwing up, I never did in my first pregnancy either. It’s just exhaustion and nausea. Nausea made better with carbs!!

I'm glad the smoothie worked for you Smile It's such a bad system that right when you want to be really good about getting nutritious food your body decides to shoot down everything but empty carbs!
