Hi everyone, I usually wouldn’t bother the doctor as there’s nothing they can do (and I still don’t want to) but being pregnant I don’t know if I should go in or not, my voice has been completely gone for nearly a week now and I’m nearly 2 weeks into my cold. Is this okay though? I don’t see the point in going but last pregnancy it turned out I had flu and didn’t know! Although I don’t have the flu now this seems to be lingering. Just unsure whether or not it’s worth nagging a doctor for. I’ve definitely got an infection in my throat and possibly still in my chest (chest feels a tiny although still trouble breathing, but my throat feels worse).

If you don't have a fever, no, I probably wouldn't bother. If you have sinusitis, it's totally normal for it to last about 2-3 weeks. But there really is nothing you need to do, unless you have a fever or chest pains or severe chest congestion that is affecting your breathing badly. It will run it's course on it's own and there's nothing they should be doing for you (some will offer antibiotics, but they don't work, it's just to get you out of the office pretty much). I've definitely lost my voice several times for up to a week. It usually all clears up when the cold itself does. It's miserable though, I know.

Yeah the pain is fine (well, it isn’t fine, it just is what it is). I just wasn’t sure if it would have any bad effect on baby due to infection. I don’t feel it’s bad enough to do anything about if I wasn’t pregnant, so I assumed it was fine now I’m pregnant also but wasn’t sure. But I’ll wait 3 weeks if infection can last that long before I reluctantly lug myself to a doctor. Side note: I’ve never lost my voice before it’s very very strange!! People look at me strange when I start whispering to them lol

Personally, I’d go to the gp. It’s unlikely that your illness would have an effect on the baby but better safe than sorry imo

If your voice is gone, then that’s laryngitis most likely? The NHS advice is to see your gp if it persists for over 2 weeks.

I’m not pregnant but am also on day 5 with no voice. I’ve got a comedy head cold, a raging sore throat and a hacking cough. It’s a virus. Nothing to be done but stay in bed.
