Car stall - causing seatbelt to tighten round bump

Hi,

I was in the passenger seat with my mum driving, her foot spasmed causing her to stall the car. The result of this was the seatbelt tightening round my bump. We weren’t going fast as she was pulling into park but the car did shudder.

My mum feel so horrible about it and has been crying. I haven’t felt the baby move yet but it only happened 15-20 mins ago. She wanted to take me to get checked over. I really don’t think it’s necessary as we didn’t crash and wasn’t going fast. Any advice?

Thanks I’m advance

I’m 28 weeks. She’s moved since so she must be fine in there. She’s usually very active so if she’s not as active later on I’ll give them a call. I doubt I need to see anyone.

The seatbelt at moved up and tighten before I got the chance to do anything as it happened quickly. Think I’ll tuck it into my trousers from now on lol.

There was a bird about to smash through our windscreen on a fast carriageway and my partner had to brake hard. Seatbelt locked around my belly and hurt. I phoned the triage soon after and she said as long as I'm not O- blood group or injured I should be okay to enjoy my day.
Baby was fine moving about and still fine now a few weeks later.
Just keep an eye on movement and if there is anything concerning then call midwives

Remember that nature has designed things so the baby is really well protected by all your muscle and all the fluid. Imagine you were trying to hit a cuddly toy inside a balloon - it wouldn't be at all easy, right?!

Try not to worry but if there is a change in movement, go to get checked out.

Thanks for the replies. She’s been moving about just as normal. I didn’t think we were going at a fast enough speed or anything. I think my mum just panicked.

If you are RH-ve you should speak to your hospital triage unit.
Otherwise if you're happy with movements and it was a low speed low impact from the seatbelt it's unlikely to have caused any harm.

There’s a lot of padding around baby, they are well protected. Google ECV and
You will see how much force can be put on your abdomen
