Anyone’s baby ‘felt small’ to midwife and been bigger?

Hi my first born was a big baby not far off 10lbs and I’m 38 weeks with number 2.

Midwife sed she would be massively shocked if baby is much over 7lbs as his head “feels small” and body isn’t big either.
I am also measuring under bumpwise but I was with my first baby too, all the way through, and he was hiding his massiveness in there somewhere!

Could she be right? Will I have a tiddler or can she palpate and get it wrong?!

My midwife always said if she could guess she would be a really rich lady. Even when I asked if she would have a guess at how big baby was she wouldn't say anything.

I have a small size 6-8 frame (before pregnancy) had a fair size bump at the end but because of my size everyone guess baby to be between 6lbs - 7lbs. 10 days overdue I was induced. Baby boy came out at a big 8lbs 9oz. Bearing in mind I'm small I don't know how he ever got that big inside lol.

At my 10 day check I answered the door to my midwife who I had seen throughout and her first words were "where was you hiding him". So I really don't think they can tell. From what I've read I don't think growth scans are hugely reliable. 8lbs 9 was big for me but I managed after an episiotomy. None of the newborn petite we had brought in the hospital actually fitted him. You'll manage. The body is an amazing thing and not to be underestimated. All the best x

My sister and I were 7,2 and 7,4 each. Both brothers were 9,8. Youngest bro was actually bigger in size, and born 3 days early while other bro was 11 days early. DM had no problems with them despite them being bigger and heavier than us girls (both 11/10 days early).
Our midwives here refuse to guess the weight but will tell you if they think there's a concern at all as our closest hospital is a birthing centre and the hospital to go to for emergencies is in the next town over so we need to know in advance if any problems might arise. (Although we get blue lighted and get there in 15 mins instead of 40 if it's an unforseen emergency.. rural area and all that)
