Hi just wanted to ask people opinions about having 2/3 mini bottles the 187ml of wine on a Friday only nothing the rest of the week it amounts to no more that 7 units would this be ok?

OP posts:

7 units in one sitting? Too much even if you're not pregnant.

JoJoSM2 · 04/11/2017 16:37

That’s way over the guidelines for anyone - man or woman. When pregnant, you’re advised not to drink but I would have a half of that small bottle with a meal on occasion.

PonderLand · 04/11/2017 17:19

I would drink one small glass every couple of weeks, I think I had two glasses over Christmas Day.

OuchLegoHurts · 04/11/2017 19:19

I absolutely love my wine but I'm pregnant and wouldn't dream of drinking that much in a sitting. That's 3/4 of a large bottle!

Mumbofeet · 04/11/2017 22:08

Can I just ask what are the risks to baby if you did drink that much in one go? I'm not at all saying its ok I'm just curious, i know about foetal alcohol syndrome but that is from prolonged drinking, just interested to know what damage it could potentially do having a whole bottle of wine in one go as a one off?

Wolfiefan · 04/11/2017 22:26

Why would you take the risk? Confused

PrimeraVez · 05/11/2017 06:51

mumbofeet my understanding is that binge drinking is actually a significant cause of FAS, rather than prolonged drinking.

OP, to answer your question: I'm quite laid back about drinking during pregnancy (in 2nd and 3rd tri, I have a bottle of beer or glass of wine on a Friday night) but I definitely think that's too much in one sitting.

InRainbows · 05/11/2017 07:02

Picture the size of your baby's tiny liver. Now imagine that little tiny organ processing wine.

Enough to put me off a sip!

RedBlackberries · 05/11/2017 07:08

Honestly I drink a little now I'm in 2nd trimester but I carefully measure 100mls of wine or less and have made those mini bottles last 2-3 nights. I come from a family that's really relaxed about drinking in pregnancy but I don't think even they would get through almost 600mls wine in one sitting!

ScotsLamb · 05/11/2017 07:11

@kizzykat86 you have posted previously about being very worried you had damaged the baby by heavy drinking in the early stages of pregnancy.
If you were that concerned at the early stages due to alcohol then please don’t resume drinking later in pregnancy.
Your baby doesn’t need alcohol. It’s not good for it especially if you were drinking heavily before finding out you were pregnant.
Maybe worth a chat with your doctor or Midwife if you are struggling not to drink.

bathghter · 05/11/2017 07:33

definitely would not

midsummabreak · 05/11/2017 07:39

Not worth killing your baby's neurons

TheCatsMother99 · 05/11/2017 07:42

Scotslamb has said exactly what I was going to say.

You were worried once before about drinking heavily earlier on in your pregnancy so what's changed now to make you go the other way and even think about drinking as much as that?

It's only a short period of your life to go without alcohol (not even counting the fact you were dribking as normal till you were about 14 weeks anyway), so don't risk it.

Figgygal · 05/11/2017 07:42

Do you mean 2/3rds of a mini bottle or up to 3 mini bottles? If the latter of course that's too much in one go

I had an occasional small glass of wine when pg both times as I don't think I ever had so many weddings to go to than when I was pg (bloody typical) but certainly wasn't a habit

Oysterbabe · 05/11/2017 08:15

No that would not ok at all.

confused123456 · 05/11/2017 08:25

I drunk throughout my pregnancy, not much, say a small wine topped right up with lemonade, or a very weak spirit and mixer.
I have a very high tolerance and when I'm not pregnant I can easily drink a bottle of wine to myself. Or with spirits I have an even higher tolerance. And I don't get drunk or get a hangover.
My baby was fine. My mum drunk a hell of a lot during all 3 of hers.
I understand why people don't, but each to their own. (And of course different people have different tolerances)

Hannabee123 · 05/11/2017 09:45

If you were already drinking heavily or worried about your drinking habits why are you continuing drinking when you have a baby to worry about? Get some help

OuchLegoHurts · 05/11/2017 09:56

I still just can't understand why people feel the need to drink more than the occasional glass of wine during pregnancy. It's such a short period of time in your life.

OuchLegoHurts · 05/11/2017 09:58

And confused, your own tolerance has nothing to do with the effect the alcohol has on the foetus in your womb!

demirose87 · 05/11/2017 09:59

I personally wouldn't want to risk it. I wouldn't enjoy it, I'd be worrying about the effects on the baby, so would not be worth it for me.
