Glucose tolerance test

I've been booked in for a GTT next week due to a previous large baby. The midwife told me it is pretty horrible and I should book the whole day off work, which I have done. How soon afterwards am I likely to feel OK to drive? Should I get DH to take time off work to drive me/provide general support?

It’s not horrible at all Confused. I had one with my DD and I am due to have one at the end of the month. If you feel odd after you can always go for something to eat after all the best Smile

Maybe it's just me then, I fainted at mine Blush. I guess I was one of the unlucky ones!

I refused in last pregnancy as the test itself is quite flawed and it leaves me feeling crap for days as very sick and acid reflux in pregnancy. Also migraine headaches from the sugar load.

I home monitored my blood sugars. Look to the nice guidelines on the test. Often it's administered wrong!

Mine was fine, I drove myself there and back with no worries and was back to sanding walls in the nursery after a decent lunch. It was quite nice to get two hours to sit and knit in the waiting room, I actually finished my baby blanket as a result!

God knows what your midwife is thinking but it's the easiest thing ever. You drink a sugar drink that taste like baby calpol, it's about three gulps. Wait two hours, had a blood test there you're done.

Please don't worry about it it's absolutely fine, you can sip water throughout. I'd just maybe take a banana or something to have when you're leaving x

Viserion I nearly fainted too, 30 minutes after having the glucose drink I started feeling really hot and clammy, my vision got blurred and my hearing went, I alerted a nurse who got me in a chair that dropped the back so I could lie down, after 15 minutes I felt better but quite weak.

As others have said, booking whole days off work and needing special support seems pretty excessive unless you have other medical issues! I can understand feeling a bit bleh but once you get some food into you it's fine.

As others said, taking something to read as it can get a bit dull. We got given tea and toast afterwards but I was starving so was glad I had a sandwich afterwards! Then back to work as normal and teaching teenagers for the rest of the day!

I did mine, walked to pret for a soup, went straight into work! I wouldn't drive in case you are one of the fainters but otherwise honestly you'll be more bored than anything!
