How long did it take to find anti sickness medication which worked?

I do wonder if my expectations are too high. This is the second anti sickness medication I've tried. I'm now 14+ weeks and despite being on renedine (2 x) and prochlorperazine maleate (3 x) I still have retching (daily)and a vomiting episode yesterday. There has been a massive improvement but it is still happening. I'm also scared that the more main stream drugs that don't work the more chances are I'll end up on something untested or something. Silly I know.

A lot of people find ondansetron the best. However that doesn't mean it will completely take away the nausea and vomiting but reduce it enough to be able to keep some food and fluids down.

4th time lucky for me. I'm on ondansetron but as Amelia said, it doesn't always stop it completely. Women will find that sometimes they'll have to take a combination of meds to help as well.

I’m on cyclizine and ondansetron. I’m not 100% but so much better. It took a couple of weeks to get to this stage and find the right combination. I found prochlorperazine did nothing for me, I was being sick while it dissolved.

Ondandestrone first pregnancy and promethazine worked for me in my second. Both took about 4 days to see a real difference.

Ended up on cyclizine and ondansetron, as pp said, doesn’t take it away 100% but so much better, so I could function

In my first pg it took 5 weeks to find the right drug. Five different drugs tried for a week each before going back to GP to try a new one. Took 4 weeks for the GP to tell me that I should know if they work or not in a couple of days

I found cyclazine worked best for me during that pregnancy.

This pg a combo of cyclazine and ondansetron is working best, but my symptoms are much more severe this time around.

My advice would be don't be afraid to ask for more drugs. There's always something else they can do. You should know within a couple of days if the new regimen is working for you.

Should add that I still feel like shite on cyclazine and ondansetron but I can at least function to some extent on most days!

You can get prochloperazine as a normal tablet rather than revolting dissolving things too

It took me 4 pregnancies with horrendous ms to find something that worked and even then it didn't work for my fifth.
I saw a midwife who specialised in acupuncture in pregnancy and it eased the nausea within hours. Tried it a lot earlier on the next time but it wasn't as effective.

Ondansetron is the only thing that works! I found it amazing. It made me feel 95% better. The others made little / no difference. Like other hyperemesis sufferers, I would probably have spent most of pregnancy in hospital without it. It literally saved my life, I think. Still lost 9kg whilst taking it. Dread to think of what would have happened if I had not had it.
