Is blue cheese really that risky?

Hi, 28 weeks pregnant with number 2. Had a party last night and no one touched the cheeseboard. So I have a pack of pasteurized brie, a camembert and a danish blue sat unopened in my fridge.

They are all I can think about.

I can bake the cambert. Brie is ok pasteurized. But the one I'm craving is the danish blue.

Would you risk it?? Please don't flame, I'm not in the best frame of mind today I'm just genuinely questioning. I usually stick to all guidelines.

I'm pregnant and I wouldn't risk it. I would throw it in the (outside!) bin and go to the shop and buy yourself something else gorgeous instead

BigBaboonBum · 28/10/2017 16:24

Maybe try it cooked? :-) www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/2683.aspx?CategoryID=54

Is it ok melted on something ? I love melted blue cheese.

I don't know if thats acceptable though.

CRbear · 28/10/2017 16:25

Don’t take my word for it but I believe the risk with cheese is ordinary food poisoning from listeria. The chance of you getting it is not higher than pre pregnancy but the consequences can be. I don’t know many people who’ve been sick with listeria food poisoning. You just have to make an informed decision. But for what it’s worth- I’d eat it!

Maybe a blue cheese sauce (cooked) for something could be a compromise?

MongerTruffle · 28/10/2017 16:27

Is it ok melted on something ?

Yes as long as it is cooked thoroughly.

CRbear · 28/10/2017 16:27

I take it back!! “Pregnant women are almost 20 times more likely to develop listeriosis compared with the rest of the population.”

Usernamegone · 28/10/2017 16:28

I would melt it and have a blue cheese burger

OuchLegoHurts · 28/10/2017 16:29

I've said this on another thread but you really are only pregnant for a short time. Is it really worth risking it all for a bit of cheese???

OuchLegoHurts · 28/10/2017 16:29

See CRBear's post!

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 28/10/2017 16:30

If it's ok cooked I would def melt it.

I did this once an now rarely eat non melted blue cheese !

Spam88 · 28/10/2017 16:30

Brie isn’t okay pasteurised! Fine cooked though, so I’d be hitting the Brie and bacon toasties pretty hard right now if it was me.

sureitsgrand · 28/10/2017 16:36

I know its probably not worth risking. It will probably agravate my heartburn anyway. I will continue swigging gaviscon and give it a miss. I'm thrilled to be pregnant with this one. Just having a shitty day and really fancied it.

Just heat it up and enjoy! Stilton is fine when pregnant if you don't trust it and you're fancying blue.

Gunpowder · 28/10/2017 18:49

There’s a yummy Delia lasagne with four cheeses and spinach. Massive pita to make though.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/10/2017 18:50

Stick it on a pizza? Stuffed mushrooms?

MongerTruffle · 28/10/2017 18:51

Rebeccaslicker

It's Danish Blue though, not Stilton.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 28/10/2017 18:51

Steak & blue cheese sauce?

AccrualIntentions · 28/10/2017 18:52

I'd put it on pizza.

TakeMe2Insanity · 28/10/2017 19:46

I thought brie was ok pasturised. Can anyone explain why it isn't ok if pasturised please?
