Does a dark BFP line mean more than one?

I got my BFP last week and am now 5w5d. The line was v dark and came up quite quickly - much darker than with my DD.

I have an early scan in a week as I had an ectopic in March but I am totally dreading it as I will have to go alone (my DH works in London 3 days a week).

Anyone ever had a dark test line and found out that you were having more than one?! I don’t think there’s a family history of twins etc but I wondered whether being over 35 means there is a greater chance of it happening?

Why on EARTH would anyone tell a pregnant woman that dark lines can mean miscarriage!? Confused

I had a dark, very evident line at 10dpo and i had twins. According to my consultant it can be because of higher levels of hormones.

JoJoSM2 · 27/10/2017 22:10

Fraternal twins do produce double the hormone. However, the levels vary from person to person and from pregnancy to pregnancy. Also you tested last week when you were 4+something? A very dark line is only to be expected.

I had a dark quick line with pg no 1. Which was singleton DD.

I had a dark quick line with pg no 2. Which is currently 19w with twins.

I think it is just down to hormones and some women/ pregnancies have more!

I had a dark line very early on and only one baby! Not quite hyperemesis but I had very bad morning sickness up until 17 weeks.

Hyperemesis pregnancy here and a faint line. Took 5 days for the line to appear, and even then I wasn't sure if the line was there or not. Waited for a few hours to double check and it was there but still not dark. Everyone's body reacts differently

Dark line, one baby, terrible morning sickness Grin

I had HCG levels of almost 4x what they should be by 8 weeks and when I tested days before my period was due, the line came up quickly on a Waitrose essentials test. One baby though.

I’m pregnant with twins and my line wasn’t dark at all I was testing to be sure for a few days. So couldn’t believe when I found out it was twins

willisurvive2under2 · 28/10/2017 10:06

Faint line until around 6 weeks here, it’s twins. Horrid sickness until 11 weeks, just started to feel better now. I’m 36, no family history. Agree with PPs who said as you get older your eggs start being a bit erratic!

My twin line wasn’t very dark.

Holz657 · 28/10/2017 10:15

I had a very very dark line at 3 weeks. No twins and no strong symptoms.

Dark line with my first baby (girl) - straightforward pregnancy apart from terrible sickness. Was worried that it might indicate twins but didn't for me.

Second pregnancy (boy) - only ever got a very faint line, but another straightforward pregnancy, still had sickness but much, much less.

So I wouldn't worry - I think at most it signals less or more hcg levels but wouldn't try not to read too much into it. Am sure there is no connection to anything you have eaten!
