Breast feeding, do I need bottles?

I'm due in three weeks (eek!!) and hopefully plan to breast feed. As a result, I haven't bought any bottles/steriliser etc and was just going to see how I go.

Is this reasonable or should I buy some just in case?

Another vote for having some ready made stuff to hand. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it! I am still breastfeeding at 13months but once or twice at the very beginning when it all felt too much or DS was going bananas it was amazing to have a back up... it just gave us that breather so we could all calm down and try again at the breast when it wasn’t a desperate situation. Didn’t stop what is still a lovely breastfeeding relationship! Best of luck! Xx

Hi!
I'm due in 2 weeks and I was wondering this also. In the end, we bought some of those pre sterilized bottles of formula as the hospital doesn't have them in anymore... and that's just in case I can't BF for whatever reason.

I've got the whole shebang (steriliser, bottles etc Ina kit) as a family friend bought them for just in case and never used them so we bought them from her totally brand new but much cheaper. I'm hoping to do the same and breastfeed but I know I'll want to express etc so I can let someone else feed when I'm knackered so I think it will be useful. If not we will pass it on totally unused as well.

I had 3 Tommee Tippee bottles and some formula just in case breastfeeding didn’t work out. I ended up breastfeeding exclusively until DS was nearly a year, at which point he went on cow’s milk. For me, having a bottle and formula ready to go put my mind at ease and made me feel less panicky about BF. Do what feels right for you!
