Hi Everyone,

I have suffered with chronic migraine since my early 20's I get about 10-15 a month but they are generally well managed with dissolvable aspirin and triptan medication.

I got my BFP on Tuesday, first pregnancy, and have literally had a migraine ever since. It's on the right side of my head rather than my usual left (this has happened before but it's rare for me). I have taken paracetamol and ibuprofen on the advice of my GP but not surprisingly they have had little to no effect.

I'll be honest I am feeling pretty miserable right now. I can't work/function and the thought of being like this for weeks (or months) longer is getting me down. I feel terrible for saying this as I am genuinely delighted and very grateful to be pregnant but this has completely taken the joy away.

Can any fellow migraine sufferers please give me hints, tips or advice on how you have coped? I am desperate and will try anything.

Thank you :)

I love the Kool N soothes @tracy. I immediately need a cold flannel over my eyes. It really does help.

I agree with previous posters that having gentle low volume television (as long as my eyes are covered) has actually helped with my last couple of migraines because I’m not solely focused on how sick I feel or the pain.

@moany it’s rubbish isn’t it! I really hope my baby doesn’t end up like me; my mum has 4 children but says she never had a migraine until she had me (her third) and I was the only one that all through childhood, teens and adulthood had migraines too. I really hope I don’t pass it on but my dad has them too, and my DH and his Mum are sufferers too. Some families are just stuck with them aren’t they!

Thanks to all of you for your help and support last week, dare I say it but haven't had one for one week today so hoping that they are going to disappear or at least dramatically reduce in frequency for pregnancy! Smile

Oh-just to say DON'T use the pressure point in fleshy part of thumb during pregnancy (I have been using up until now, but its LI4 and shouldn't be used for acupuncture during pregnancy, so best to avoid as a pressure point too!)

I had TOTALLY forgotten that it is traditionally a point to avoid, so please don't use it, just in case!

I also suffer with migraines, and had awful ones during my 2nd pregnancy. I thought they were caused by my hormones, but in pregnancy it can also be a symptom of anaemia. Once my iron levels improved, so did the migraines. I couldn't stomach the tablets, so bought some spatone sachets.
