I am 30 weeks pregnant with my second child, my daughter is 16 months, and although looking back I've had a few warning signs this was coming on, I basically went to bed fine on Friday and woke up on Saturday unable to walk.

I've been to the GP and been diagnosed with SPD, and I cannot believe how it has floored me, the pain stops me in my tracks. I have a routine appointment with the midwife on Friday, and been advised by the doctor that she will refer me to a physio.

Luckily I'm on annual leave this week, but I have no idea how I will drive to work next week let alone actually work! And I had such plans for the next few months, especially for December when I was due to be on Mat leave with my daughter, and now i don't know how I'll even change her nappy.

Just looking for some people who are going through the same thing to commiserate with.

Foodie I'm glad you've got help with your toddler. My family live an hour away but are really supportive, and with their help and help from some of my good friends plus nursery to fall back on I should hopefully be ok.

Monkey I can't believe the speed in which it's taken over as well. I seem to wake up with reasonable mobility but by 2pm I am in agony.

I managed to go out for lunch yesterday by making sure I rested well in the morning, and then getting dropped off/picked up right outside the restaurant. I should've brought a cushion to sit on as well though.

Turning over in the night hadn't been a problem until last night - I couldn't sleep so kept turning from one side to the other and I guess that aggravated it.

foodiemama26 · 30/10/2017 07:52

Sorry to hear it’s got worse at night Natsku. I’m using a massive body pillow which has helped. Have you tried anything yet?

Natsku · 30/10/2017 08:01

I have a massive body pillow (have had body pillows for years as I've always had issues with my hips and knees when sleeping on my side and I always sleep on my side) too which definitely helps but its the whole moving from one side to the other which makes it hurt. Have midwife appointment tomorrow so I'm going to insist on an appointment with the OB this week as I reckon GP will just direct me to the OB anyway as GPs tend to avoid dealing with pregnancy issues over here (had a GP reluctant to even prescribe me codeine for bad pains earlier in the pregnancy and just gave me a few pills for the night and told me to see the OB the next morning for a prescription)

How did the midwife appointment go natsku?

Well I have finished work at 31weeks. I went in for a few hours yesterday and managed to handover my outstanding work, I was in agony after a couple of hours so it really reaffirmed that I needed to be finished.

I got my referral from the obs team, and I have an appointment tomorrow. Hoping for good news and to be told that I'm still low risk and can have a home birth. But we will see.

She made me an appointment with the OB for next week so hopefully will get some help. Sat in a bit of a bad position yesterday and shifted my weight and got a really bad pain in my hip along with an odd noise, being much more careful now how I sit.

Sounds like it was definitely time for you to finish working!

ChocolateRaisin · 01/11/2017 17:47

I’m glad you finished early Palen, it’s hellish trying to struggle through. Just make sure that you take it easy now and don’t over do it.

I find turning over in bed very painful, whatever I do. I find slightly shifting my weight in bed very painful as well, I actually find most things painful at the moment! I really hope this baby is early- any time from 37 weeks is fine by me!

I’ve been struggling a bit emotionally towards the end of last week and over the weekend. I just hate being so restricted and not able to do simple things. I know it’s not forever, lack of sleep and hormones aren’t helping. I’ve felt better in the last few days thankfully.

Once the baby is born and I’ve recovered from the birth I’m popping her in a sling and we are going out with the dogs on lovely long walks, twice a day. I’m missing walking them so much, I can’t wait to get back to it.

Everyone who is starting to feel symptoms- please listen to your body and slow down a bit. I tried to push through and I think I really made things worse. The symptoms come on so quickly, it’s such a shock.

MrsPan · 02/11/2017 05:34

Morning
Sorry to hear of everyone’s struggles. I am pleased that you have stopped working Palen. Sometimes it’s just not worth the pain and stress of trying to push through. I also find turning in bed painful chocolateraisin/Natalie’s ...not helped by a clingy toddler who keeps joining me in bed! I’m totally with you in looking forward to lovely long walks with the baby!

I hope everyone else has managed to get comfy last night- I find night time really difficult. Both my daughter and I have been on the sofa since 4am as she wouldn’t settle back in her bed and I couldn’t get comfy so it kept her awake and my husband has a big day at work so I felt like at least one of us should get some sleep.

I walked into my mw appt on tues, burst into tears after being in agony at work on Monday and not sleeping and she got me into the GPnstraight away who gave me some pain relief and signed me off. I have to say it’s such a relief and has felt so much more manageable by being able to rest and not get stressed if I can’t sleep at night.

You poor things, I had it really badly in my last pregnancy, it is SO miserable. I bought this and it actually changed my life, without it I think I would have been bed bound: www.maternity-belt.co.uk/

The good news is that pretty much straight after delivery I was fine again, I get the odd twinge when I've been carrying the baby around too much as he is a little chunk bit on the whole I am fine plus it didn't cause me much pain during delivery, I can highly recommend a water birth as it took the weight of the bump which really helped. Good luck everyone!

ShouldHaveListenedInBiology · 02/11/2017 05:43

Also the best tip I got was to wear silk pyjamas or get some silk sheets for the bed, it really helps with the turning over problem.

Hi can I join I've just been signed off sick until mat leave starts on advice of physios. I'm 23+3 weeks so a while to go yet. It'd my 5th pregnancy and had spd to varying degrees in all pregnancies including a twin pregnancy which was horrendous last pregnancy I struggled through but was a mess after had 6 months of physio started pilates felt good and strong again then this pregnancy I started symptoms from about 14 weeks back pain from day one. Recently hurt my back and stretched all my pelvic girdle in work in an accident had 3 weeks off rested saw a private physio went back to work and lasted 3 shifts saw a nhs physio who was concerned about how hitched up my pelvis is on one side and advised I go off soon as I can spoke with private physio who said I shouldn't have even gone back to work gp agreed so here I am sore fed up and worried as I have a long way to go pregnancy wise and my lo has a lot more weight to gain.... This is not good 😣😢😭

Palendrominca · 03/11/2017 14:58

Sounds like a good tip should, I may try that.

raisin sorry to hear you've been upset, how are you today. It's crap isn't it. I wouldn't wish it on anybody.

mrspan glad you've finished work, I am also releived, I really didn't want to do myself an injury which is all that would've happened. TBH I think they were glad when they saw me hobbling around.

minnie of course you can join, sorry you find yourself here. Sounds like you have your hands full even now you e stopped work. How old are your other children?

I had my ob appointment yesterday, I was in agony by the end as I was waiting for over 2 hours to be seen. Had to ask a man who was sat in a hospital chair to move as I couldn't sit on the waiting room chairs anymore. More bad news for me, the baby is breech. My DD was breech but I had a successful ECV and so I heir to need a section. Worried that I wouldn't be able to cope with the ECV this time as I am so sore.

However assuming the baby turns there is no reason why I can't have a home birth, so that was good news. Also if the pain increases in severity then I may have the option to be induced from 37 weeks (but this would be in hospital). As my daughter didn't come until i was nearly 42 weeks I may consider it if I get worse.
