Threatened Miscarriage - any hope?

Just looking for some reassurance as I've had 2 precious MCs - I'm 5+5 today and when I first found out I was pregnant I had a little brown dishcharge for 2 days which then stopped. Today when I went to the loo I had some slightly darker brown CM - when I checked again it was very dark brown on paper and looked more like blood. Cue massive panicking.

Went to A&E, they took bloods and urine samples and are sending me to the EPAU on Friday for an early scan (apparently they can't check under 6 weeks). As I've had a sharp pain in my right ovary they want to rule out an ectopic too.

Has anyone been diagnosed with a threatened miscarriage, only for it to all be ok!? I'm desperate for some hope. Thank you!

I didn't have bleeding but intense lower right abdomen pain in the first few weeks with my daughter. I had my appendix removed several years earlier so it couldn't have been that. Had the scan at 7 weeks and there was the sac

No reason for it and she is now 4.

Good luck!

Sending best wishes!!

Iwantaunicorn · 27/10/2017 20:10

Reading your post and then rereading your op I hadn't seen the sharp pain on your right ovary. I had sharp stabbing pains on the right hand side with dull pains sometimes, and also really awful period pains as well. I was told it was all normal, and probably hormones. Didn't stop me being terrified for weeks though!

I'm so glad it wasn't an eptopic as feared, and I hope that the next two weeks fly by for you, and all is well. Take it as easy as you can do, and good luck!

Hiya,
I bleed every month for 3 months, reallu heavy bleeding. My daughter is now 6 months old.🙂

3littlebadgers · 27/10/2017 20:20

Jelly it was exactly the same for me and it all turned out well in the end. The best of luck Smile

jellycrumble · 27/10/2017 22:38

@Iwantaunicorn - how strange that there was no cause for that horrible worrisome pain! But so glad it went okay for you! I even asked the sonographer to check for cysts etc but there was nothing.

I'm now worrying about the fact there was no fetal pole. Is it normal not to see anything but a ges sac and yolk sac at exactly 6 weeks? I'm driving myself mad Sad I'm very sorry to keep rambling!

Again, thank you so much for the well wishes and stories, what a smashing bunch you are Grin x

@jellycrumble it was a pretty grim time. I was on hormone pills so all pain was explained away as that and my ovary shrinking back to normal, and as long as there wasn't any fresh blood I was told not to worry - pretty easy to say when it's not inside you isn't it?!

I think it's perfectly normal not to see the foetal pole at this point - it seems 8 weeks onwards is the best time to see everything according to google and all the chat boards I read.

We booked a private scan, and they recommended to have our first at 8 weeks as they'll be able to see the heartbeat and everything by then. We're impatient and couldn't wait, so we had a scan at 6 weeks, and whilst we saw heartbeats and stuff, we were told not to get our hopes up because it was so early and to come back again at 8 weeks to be sure. We spent the next two weeks shitting ourselves 😂 (Who am I kidding, 22 weeks in we still are just in different ways!).

I'm not sure if there's a difference between private scans and NHS ones, but I feel that the private scan has a better picture and can see more stuff. No idea if this is the case, but it could possibly be worth looking to see for private scans locally to you and giving them a bell?

I don't think you're rambling at all! It's such a scary time, and I don't blame you for driving yourself mad and being worried. I'll be keeping everything crossed for you, try to take it as easy as you can, and I hope the time whizzes by! Xx

I’ve had a bad experience with private scans. NHS much better IME. Good luck, OP.

Thecaravan · 29/10/2017 12:38

Hey op I had a scan at 6 weeks exactly and saw nothing but an empty sac. No fetal pole or yolk sac. A week later it was all there with heart beat. They're so tiny at this stage that my dr was not concerned when we saw nothing as the sac was measuring the correct size for 6 weeks. Of course I spent the week an emotional wreck! Keeping fingers crossed for you Flowers

OMG I'm so sorry I didn't realise I had more replies! Thank you so much everyone.

Iwantaunicorn - Oh I do apologise I assumed from your earlier post that you'd already given birth! Grin Thanks for your lovely reply, and hope everything continues to go well for you. I've had a look into private scans but at £80 a pop I'm hesitant (especially if it's bad news!) I've got my second scan on the 10th so I'm just trying to focus on that but it's SO hard not to worry or think the worst (as I've had a MC and missed miscarriage previously). I've completely stopped bleeding and the pain has gone, so now I'm thinking "oh god now I have no symptoms, that must mean something else is wrong!" However I POAS earlier and the test line was darker than the control line so I feel a little more reassured. How many scans did you have in total?

Thecaravan That is so reassuring to hear, thank you! At least we saw a yolk sac which is more often seen at 5 weeks so maybe my dates are slightly out?

Hi @jellycrumble, just seen your reply! Sorry if I made it read like I'd given birth, I can't wait to do so if that helps?! We had private scans at 6, 8 and 16 weeks (NHS ones at 9, 12 and 20) and I'm booking in for a 4d scan at 26-27 weeks. I'm so glad you've stopped bleeding, and that the test Line came up darker! I had the same thing happen with my symptoms on and off in the first 14 weeks - they would completely disappear for 1-2 days, I'd be utterly terrified and then BAM!!! I'd be back to feeling like death 😂

I'm so excited for your scan tomorrow, and will be keeping everything crossed for you!! Flowers

Shehz21 · 09/11/2017 17:07

Goodluck for your scan tomorrow jellycrumble
Will be thinking of youFlowers

jellycrumble · 14/11/2017 17:29

Hi so sorry for my super late reply, it's been such a hectic week! Thank you for thinking of me @iwantaunicorn and @shehz21!

So the scan went fine :) However I'm measuring a week and a half behind!! So I thought i was 8 weeks and (at the time of the scan) they dated me at 6+4! I thought I was doing so well getting to 8 weeks so to find out I'm all the way back where I started is so nerve wracking Sad

I now don't have another scan until my 12 week one....it's gonna be so hard waiting!!!

OP posts:
Rebeccaslicker · 14/11/2017 17:56

I wouldn't worry tooo much about the date if the sonographer was happy enough. I went at 8 weeks with DD to be told she was only measuring 6 and we had a "50/50 chance" whether she grew or not. In fact they are measuring something so tiny that even a mm here or there can increase or decrease the estimated age by a few days! So long as everything looks proportionate and there's a good little heartbeat you have a good chance of all being well.

Fingers crossed for the 12 week scan now!

jellycrumble · 09/12/2017 18:07

Quick update... Had a 10 week scan last Sunday and everything was fine ... and I have my "official" 12 week scan on Monday! Shock Hoping everything is going well, but to anyone reading a threatened
Miscarriage doesn't always mean it's going to go wrong Smile Keeping everything crossed!

Threatened Miscarriage - any hope?
