iSize car seat - doesn't come out of car to come to ward

Apologies if this is in the wrong place...

I've just been told by a friend that our local hospital doesn't let you leave the ward without the baby being in a car seat.

I have an iSize car seat - it is designed to stay in the car. It is not suitable to carry a baby in.

Am I likely to have issues leaving with this?

It will be fine. Just explain to ward that your seat isn't a carrier.
You may wish to take the manual into hospital.
There is no rule about this anywhere, but given most people have baby carriers, then it makes sense to use them. Otherwise take baby in pram or cot on wheels to pick to point and put baby in car...

It will be fine. They probably will want you to take baby out in a pram or one of the wheely cots rather than holding them, and a member of staff might come with you to check but it shouldn't be a problem.

Our car seat was the same, no one on the ward even asked how we were taking baby home. We just walked out with baby in my partner's arms. I would have been ok with ward staff accompanying us to the car to check if this was hospital policy though. Don't worry about it at all. Btw in hindsight I wish I had bought an infant carrier seat- it would have been so much easier transferring baby from car to wherever we were going without waking them.

They can't keep you or the baby as a prisoner. Just politely explain the situation and leave.

We have an iSize seat too and I left hospital with baby in a stretchy wrap snuggled under my dressing gown. They didn't check but I would have been fine with them coming down if they had wanted to. I never had a problem transferring sleeping baby from car to pram and it means he will now sleep through a full nappy change.
