Low heart rate at 21 weeks

I am hoping someone can give me some hope. We saw a consultant today abd found out the babies heart beat is between 60 and 70bpm which is half what they expect. They have told me to prepare for the worst but if we can get to 24 weeks they can induce if neccessary? The baby is kicking and i can feel it so taking it as a positivity. I know either way now i will be delivering a baby probably sooner than expected.

Has anyone had any similar experiences and can make the next 3 week wait less worrying? I am praying i can get to 24 weeks and the doctors can do their thing!

Thank you so much for all your support! You have no idea how much it is helping to know the baby has so many well wishers. I just wish there was more i could do than just taking antibiotics and steroids.

We have another appointment with the cardiologist next friday which they will then assess the situation again. Its very hard to stay calm and get on with things knowimg this is going on.

On a lighter note, i hope baby hangs tight until after christmas as i haven't got them any christmas presents. My OH is being so supportive and we are considering putting the Christmas tree up in a couple of weeks (mid November a bit too early i know) but sooner i will feel christmas is here, sooner i know baby will be.

Again thank you so much for taking the time to read and reply to my posts. It really is helping!

Wishing you and baby all the best.
I had a friend who’s baby had a very low heart rate too although I can’t remember what caused it.
She was closely monitored and then the baby was fitted with a pacemaker once she was born.
She’s now a healthy, robust three year old!
I have my fingers crossed for you

Hi I heard your comments regarding conplete heart block during your pregnancy and child requiring pacemaker. If that's okay can we chat as similarly my child now in NICU is going through same (I absolutely had no hint until 30th week scan when they made the decision to deliver). Now fighting both prematurity and chb.

Will be great if we can share experiences.

Regards
Soma

Hi @ZoetobeMum I just wondered what your outcome was as I am going through something very similar right now and I'm so so upset

ZoetobeMum · 05/12/2023 18:33

Hi @94kj,

I am happy to share my tiny baby that ended up coming 6 weeks prem with complete heart block is now 5 years old and attending school. She had her pacemaker fitter in 2021 at the age of 3.

My thoughts are with you as i know how hard it can be. Here to talk if you ever want to reach out.

Wishing you all the luck and best,

Zoe
