Talk to me about Anterior Placentas

Hi,
I'm a first timer and I'm 21w+1 today. At my 20 week scan last week I saw on my notes that I have an anterior placenta. I've been on Google and researched the hell out of this and now I'm stressing about movements. At the moment I have only felt slight flutters but only if the baby is down either side or at the very bottom and they are not regular and not every day, sometimes I can go days with nothing. I'm anxious about how I'm supposed to monitor the patterns of movements if I can't actually feel any proper ones. I know this is important as it helps you to get to know the pattern so that you can alert someone if the pattern changes and movement reduces/changes. I wondered if anyone else has or has had an anterior placenta and when you started to feel proper movements? Am I worrying about this un-necessarily? Thanks.

Hi OP -I'm also a first timer with an anterior placenta and have spent the last few weeks worrying. Whilst I have felt movement on and off, I have gone whole days with nothing. I'm now 28+2 and it's only in the past couple of days that I have felt stronger movement more consistently. There is no doubting it now and sometimes it feels like I have an acrobat in there. It is a relief but also I wish I hadn't worried so much. So if you possibly can, try to see having an anterior placenta as a reason why you shouldn't need to worry so much. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I had an anterior placenta with my first and she was breech the whole time I had very little proper movement (well that everyone else describes) and it use to stress me quite a bit! but you just get to know what’s normal for them and as I hadn’t had one before didn’t really know any different. I never heard her heart beat or got rescanned it would sometimes have been nice for reassurance but trust your instincts and you will be fine! I am 18 weeks with second and although I am feeling bits it’s still not much I was really hoping for the ‘proper’ les stressful more kicking experience this time but have a feeling I may have another anterior placenta, knowing my luck!

Another first timer here. My placenta was anterior-low at 20wks. It took until around 25wks before I properly started to feel movements. MW started checking the heartbeat from 24wks onward.

I did feel anxious for several weeks about movement but that did settle down. Feeling lots of movement now, especially around the sides of my bump.

With my first baby, I had a posterior placenta and felt him wriggle and flutter from about 18/19 weeks. This time around, I have an anterior low placenta and it pretty much masked all definite movements until around week 23. Even then, I didn't feel them often.
Only now at almost 29 weeks am I feeling consistent knocks and bumps.

Anterior placentas are nothing to worry about. Before you know it, baby will be big enough and strong enough to kick through it!

Autumn, annoyingly for some of us we never really felt movements even later on.
