Feet size and speed of delivery... myth or truth?

I'm quite tall (5'10") with pretty big feet (size 9/43) and I'd always heard that with bigger feet you tended to give birth faster (and hopefully more easily!) I've also got something called hypermobility syndrome, which means my ligaments are stretchier than normal even before pregnancy. I remember a physio saying to me once that I'd give birth in no time as my ligaments are so stretchy. Is this all just guff or is there some truth in it?

nope.... am a size 7 and had very slow labour

although...... thinking about it....... the last part was very quick and pushing was fast too

Lullabyloo · 12/04/2007 16:59

size 8 feet....a 57 hr labour resulting in emergency c sec....as found i have an android pelvis....ds was stuck fast with the cord round his neck four times.

I have hypermobility syndrome too - and I had a section in the end because apparently my cervix is the only bit of me which doesn't stretch very far

I thought big feet and penises were related, not speed of delivery in labour????

tinkerbellhadpiles · 12/04/2007 17:05

MrsMar - you have the same body type as me, except I'm only 5ft 4. Big hips don't help if your cervix is made of kevlar or similar substance (as mine seems to be.

Oh and you'll look really funny, as I did, the day after you give birth because your tummy suddenly flops forward and you look like you're wearing a very saggy bumbag on the front..... Unlike those who normally carry a bit of weight round the middle where it doesn't show up, with a big weight/hip differential, it really does!

Shoe size 4, height approx 5' 3, very slim hips

dd - 4.5 hours (ish)

ds - 3 hours

funnypeculiar · 12/04/2007 17:12

shoe size 3 - two quick labours (although pushing stage with ds was unusually long) - dd so quick that
a) they had to wheel me through the hospital going don't push yet, please
b) I forgot to ask for pain relief

Jbck · 13/04/2007 18:40

Thread hijack, littlelapin I'm a small 3 (sometimes 2.5) in a shoe & I've never seem Merrell in children's sizes/shops, my current pair are about to give up the ghost & I grudge paying the full price if I can get them cheaper. Where did you get children's ones if you don't mind me asking? TIA

I'm 5 foot 2, normal weight 7 and a half stone, feet size 3/4, but DS#1 was bron in less than 4 hours and DS#2 was bron in less than 3 hours, again , mother 5 foot 9 (i think) and size 6 feet, long painful labours!

Nemo2007 · 13/04/2007 20:05

I am a size 7 and all mine were fast dialations from 4cms to giving birth in 10mins

Tutter · 13/04/2007 20:07

i have teeny feet for my height (size 5s, 5'8") and narrow hips

1st stage labour passed easily, but was ridiculously difficult to push ds1 out

carol3 · 13/04/2007 20:08

size 9.5
ds1 - 8hrs
dd1- 5 hrs
dd3 - 3 hrs
so quick enough!

Lizzylou · 13/04/2007 20:11

I am 5ft 9" tall with size 8 feet, very wide hips also....had one very long labour and one long one...both got very stuck as well (2 ventouses) apparently my pelvis is quite narrow despite my enormous hips....what a p*sser

liquidclocks · 13/04/2007 20:14

5'3", size 3 feet, DS1 was 6 hrs and DS2 1hr 45mins...

...myth IMO

mum2george · 15/04/2007 11:12

My feet are size 2 and a half, went through it no problem on gas and air. I think it has been proved that their is no link with your feet size and the size of your pelvis.
