So today my mum. Paid for the pram, car seat etc . And dad for the bouncer thing.
We were given a crib. ( just mattress to buy) and on a baby event I got the sheets.
Also as had a bonus made use of the extra cash and did a bulk buy.. As would of burned a hole in pocket so ordered pram coat and purchased bottles, steriliser, hats, mittens, vests, socks, sleepsuiys, two fleece type Blankets and two cellular ones.. Also have a fair few packs of nappies from goody bags etc.
I don't feel like I've rushed, I. Generally organised anyway but it's just because I had the bonus and thought get a bulk done before Xmas.

Think I still have a fair bit to get I. E
Mattress, change mat and liners. Then want to get some 0-3 incase it's a a biggun lol. And also before bubs comes we'll get the cot etc just so don't have lots of big expenses within a few months of birth as both cars due mot and tax within 10 weeks of birth so want that out the way

Thing is as I say I've got it mainly because of bonus and lucky my parents purchased large items which was lovely
But my friend is like you're going ott and save some stuff for mat leave etc.. Even tho when on mat leave I have my sons birthday and a few other bits to keep occupied

Am I. The only one who has lots already as now feel I'm not normal lol

Good idea for sales but we're not finding out and due early March so will probably miss out as won't be sure what colour to buy.

Pretty sure the baby won't be born with any sort of colour preference. ;)

LumpySpaceCow · 17/10/2017 08:00

32 weeks.....erm, a pack of 3 sleepsuits Smile in all fairness, this is my 4th. Need to dig out baby clothes and Moses basket. Only thing I really need to buy is a new car seat and charged going bag...oh and some nappies!

RosyPony · 17/10/2017 08:05

As long as you've had your 20 week scan it's fine. I think I did a big shopping trip around 25 weeks which was good as DC1 was premature. To be honest though most stuff you can order via Amazon Prime or John Lewis next day so it's not a biggy.

lljkk · 17/10/2017 08:23

You might change your mind later about what you like. Better to buy closer to possible arrival time home, so when you'll need items, so that you can be sure to like them when you will be using them.

BoredOnMatLeave · 17/10/2017 08:26

I had absolutely everything sorted (including nursery decorated, cot up etc) by 28 weeks. Didn't start til 22 weeks though

2014newme · 17/10/2017 08:29

Yes buying stuff is easy and doesn't take a lot if organisation.
Childcare is one to be organised about and things like pension contributions whilst in maternity leave. Making a will with guardianship arrangements etc buying stuff tbh you could whizz round mother care and get the lot quite easily in an afternoon.

Oldschool41 · 17/10/2017 09:53

Your not being ott everyone is different. I find that I like to be prepared even if it's 3 months in advance. My nursery was done and cot etc before I knew I was pregnant due to having a granddaughter in May. I have bought a lot of new baby clothes but am also going to use a lot of what I bought for my granddaughter who was premature and is still so tiny. I have bought a new pram, car seat, next to me crib and a double buggy for when I have my granddaughter to stay over. My hospital bag is packed and ready to go and I'm only 32 weeks ha ha. So I'll join you in the prepared club ha ha 😜

Merida83 · 17/10/2017 09:57

At 20 weeks i wanted to be that organised i wanted to feel i was making progress. So i think it's great you are, and very sensible using bonus etc. Why risk it sitting there and being frittered away. And if you have a few big expenses to come you certainly dont want to have them and then after Xmas till have huge baby based expenses.

And as i just discovered even if you think you have it all along comes (in my case) a tiny prem baby so nothing fits anyway and you need to do a big shop so they have vests and babygrows to fit. (Also turns out they do go thro several a day - i was always sceptical and boy was i wrong lol).

I didn't start buying stuff until past 28 weeks with DD (DC1) as we moved house then and didn't want to transport everything.
I was hoping that when we got pregnant with number 2 I'd hardly need to buy anything but instead I'm pregnant with twins! So I have been buying / accumulating stuff all the way through. We've been offered lots of stuff for free from generous friends including car seat, bouncers etc so I'm hardly going to say no it's too early :-D Plus most of the things we've actually paid for have been secondhand so if I've seen a good deal I have just gone for it rather than miss out.

They might come early, even if they don't they're due a few weeks after christmas and I would like to know we are basically ready for them by the time things wind down for that time of year. Plus at 24 weeks I'm already enormous so the thought of traipsing round shops making decisions when I'm even bigger is awful!

owltrousers · 17/10/2017 10:24

I'm 27 weeks and we've done and bought everything. We've been buying gradually since we found out I was pregnant, we're probably a little OTT but it calms me to feel prepared.

  • Nursery (well, a corner of our bedroom) decorated.
  • Pram, carry cot, car seat bought.
  • Cot, moses basket, bedding sleeping arrangements all bought.
  • Small bottle set and microwave steriliser bought plus breast milk storage bags and pads (hoping to breastfeed)
  • All clothes up to 12 months bought (yes really!)
  • Swaddles / blankets / muslins all got

The only think we still need is a sling/ carrier.

Don't worry though OP! Do what feels best for you.

EEandEmakes3 · 17/10/2017 10:26

I think you're being organised. A few things I wanted were pre order only so I had to allow several weeks for them to be delivered.

I need to get a cot bed at some point. I have a Moses basket for downstairs & a tutti bambini cozee crib. I could do with finding another changing bag, I'm not keen on the one that came with the pram. Other than that I'm good to go with 13 days to left. Eek!

KarateKitten · 17/10/2017 10:34

I bought stuff for my first from about 32 weeks. Didn't buy much and am glad as I really didn't need anything much. Got so so much clothes, blankets, muslins, bibs, toys, etc. as gifts! Only needed pram, bouncer and Moses basket. Also bought emergency bottle and microwave steriliser. Nothing else as I'd Amazon Prime and could get stuff within a day.

On baby 2 and 3 I bought some clean dummies. Maybe at 38 weeks.

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 17/10/2017 10:58

Nothing wrong with being organised! I was the same at 20 weeks found out the sex and got all the main big things for baby. Just the odd bit I need now like cot sheets and stuff like that

monkey1978 · 17/10/2017 11:18

Im 25+5 and have bought nothing at all! Im a last minute kind of person though. It will be fine, anyway how much will I need the first few days anyway!

Oysterbabe · 17/10/2017 12:14

I'm 32 weeks and bought a pram yesterday. That's it. It's my second though and don't think I really need anything.
Plus I have Amazon prime.

PandaCat · 17/10/2017 12:55

I'm 20 weeks and I have x2 packs of Nappies and x8 packs of wetwipes. OH got them cheap at work.

I'm waiting to find out the gender, hopefully tomorrow. We still have all of our daughters baby clothes so if it's a girl we've got that covered.

TriJo · 17/10/2017 13:33

23 weeks... have nearly everything except a double buggy and infant car seat (decided to get a non-shit one this time as we had to move to an ERF seat way too early with #1) as my DS is only 18 months old so we still haven't gotten rid of most of his things and I'm having another boy.

Lj8893 · 17/10/2017 13:39

It's completely your preference of when you decide to buy bits. I personally wouldn't buy anything until after the 20 week anomaly scan though, but that's just my preference.

bettydraper31 · 17/10/2017 13:41

user1499786242 you won't be the first or the last- some things are just too exciting :)
