Squeeze your "down below" muscles like you're desperately trying to stop yourself weeing your pants. Do 5 quick hold & release, five slow squeeze up, hold for a count of five, release slowly for a count of five. Repeat the quick ones again.
Do them whenever you can cos no-one can tell you're doing them unless you pull a weird face

Also worth doing while having sex on top. was the only time I could ever remember.

So that you know you are actually doing them right - you can practise when havong a wee. You should be able to stop the flow of urine mid-stream. You should only do that to check occasionally tho as it increases the risk of a UTI.

If it's your first you might not feel baby moving until about 22 weeks or so (I didn't - till DS gave a wee lurch in the middle of Batman Begins!)

Naughty buckets! Best one is give DH/DP a quick pelvic floor squeeze just after he's finished when he's v sensitive down there - he'll hit the ceiling fan

Might be silly question, but does anyone know how soon in pregnancy we should be doing these exercises please?

I am 8+4 weeks - should I be doing them already? (sorry if this is already answered elsewhere).

SlightlyMadSlug · 11/04/2007 15:46

You should be doing them all your life, but they are much more important during pregnancy. Start now and you'll be fine.

Okay, so many apologies in advance if this is 'too much information' but I started doing my pelvic floor excises the other day, in sets of 10 and did them about 5 times during the day. That night I had a small amount of discharge (sorry, I did apologise first!) not blood but ever so slightly faintly coloured.

I know a small discharge is normal, but is it likely to just be coincidence that is happened on the only day I had done my pelvic floor exercises, or perhaps I did them wrong...? Not dared to do them since.

(I am 11+6 = 12 weeks officially tomorrow, hoorah!)
