Diarrhoea after eating salami - scared

I stupidly ate salami last night and was up at 4am with stomach cramps and bad diarrhoea. I'm 10 weeks pregnant.

Could this be a sign of anything seriously bad happening to the baby? Please someone tell me I'm just being stupid!

I doubt it was the salami. Are you sure you didn’t eat anything else that was bad or something?

PossibiliTea · 13/10/2017 12:49

I had vegetable rice at lunch then just salami, cheese and oatcakes at night. I know I'm an idiot for eating salami it said it was pasteurised so I thought it would be ok but my stomach is still bad from the diarrhoea so now I'm not so sure!

In fairness I had a really bad stomach on and off throughout the first trimester OP and that's completely normal- your changing hormone levels affect your digestive system so I'd put money on it being that rather than eating a small amount of salami 😊

Thank you pink and mumma, I just can't stop thinking of worst case scenarios!

I also had a bad tummy on and off throughout pregnancy, I had days off work and ended up going to see the doctor with agonising cramps. He basically said it's the baby and hormones giving me IBS symptoms. DD is here now and completely fine.

Keep yourself hydrated and rest up and if you're not better within 48 hours go to the doctors.

Hi had a bad stomach in the first trimester then I had bad constipation.

PossibiliTea · 13/10/2017 15:20

So the likelihood is that it's not the salami it's just something that hasn't agreed with me and passed through?

Possibly not even that @PossibiliTea - as I said your hormonal changes in pregnancy affect the rate of digestion, hence why some people experience constipation and others experience... the opposite!!

PossibiliTea · 13/10/2017 18:09

Sorry yes that does make sense! I don't know what I'd do without mumsnet sometimes lol

I'm 29 weeks pregnant with No2 and have had an upset stomach both times, more so in the 1st trimester. With hindsight, that was my first pregnancy symptom with DC1, before I even took the pregnancy test. Look after yourself but no need to worry, as PP have said for some people this is a normal pregnancy symptom.

OuchLegoHurts · 13/10/2017 18:42

If you kept the salami in the fridge and it was within the use by date there's no reason to think there's a connection.

AudacityJones · 13/10/2017 18:48

My obgyn once said nine months is a long time, you'll have a bad tummy once in a while, you'll have a cold, a fever etc. Don't let everything get you stressed out! It's probably hormones playing havoc with your system. Listeria in reality is extremely rare.. although of course we should try to avoid all sources of it since it is dangerous etc.

Bunnyfluffy · 13/10/2017 18:50

I'm 8+2 pregnant and have had pretty much constant diarrhoea since week 6

PossibiliTea · 13/10/2017 18:53

Thank you all, I've just read a lot on toxoplasmosis and listeria and already had a MMC in march so this has scared me. Still have a sore stomach but managed to drink plenty and eat a little, and I know symptoms with those dangerous things don't show for a while anyway if at all.

Logic is also telling me that if something didn't agree with me, I'm pretty sure it's made it's way out now! Along with taking on board what you are saying about it being a normal pregnancy symptom.
