I've been getting really strong 'kicking' feelings down in my nether regions......but lots of movement under my ribs too - and the bits I can feel near my ribs don't feel very head like........unless he's doing a little dance with his hands above his head

Does LO hiccup? I found that the most part that moved most when DS1 got hiccups was his head and shoulders. Bottoms don't move much.
This info was vital with DS1 as he was still turning several times a day until after his due date. He finally went head down at 40+3 and stayed like that until he was born at 41+1. How far along are you

I don't really know........you'd think I'd have it sussed by my 3rd pg wouldn't you LOL.

I'd 32 weeks today.......but being rather "short in stature" my babies tend to find they have no space to move after about 36/37 weeks......and stay right where they are.

Mind you one thing that I am definite about is I've had some really strong BH's tonight!

I'm also on my third pregnancy and 33 weeks pregnant.
With my last son, I had a check up and then scan at 38 weeks which showed he was breech. I was booked in for a C-section, and was told very rare for a baby to change position at such a late stage. He moved all the time and on the day of delivery there was a lot of movement. They re-scanned me just before taking me down to theatre, and he was head down! They talked me into giving up on the C-section and going for a natural birth which was a bit of a disaster as he was big for me (9,5 and I am quite small and petite) and I had 3 hours in the second stage trying to push him out.
I'm also pretty uncomfortable now, hence up at 4 in the morning!

I'm 33+1 with no3.My other 2 babies were always head down but this one was breech at my 30wk appointment.
I know there's still plenty of time for the baby to turn but the thought of a c section fills me with dread!
I keep trying to guess which way round the baby is I think it's still breech I'll find out on Fri.

you can sort of wiggle the head between your hands , when you lie down , and put your hands on either side of the head, if it is head down, the head wiggles, the bottom doesn;t!

frazzle - if you search the archives there are lots of good links on things to try to turn a breech ..x

Rosetip · 11/04/2007 09:54

Frazzle,
I don't mean to sound alarmist and I'm sure this is very rare, but there was an article in the paper recently where a midwife had turned a breech baby close to birth with very tragic circumstances to do with the cord becoming twisted. There are probably thousands of successful turns which don't get the publicity, but it did put me off doing anything about a possible breech and in favour of a section.

if you think you should have it sussed by preg no3, imagine how i felt when with baby no 4 i got to hospital 8cm dilated and then they discovered ds was breech. he def had not turned in last few weeks and 3 mw and 1 dr had failed to spot it. so no advice on how to turn them as we didnt have chance to try, but thought i would tell you the c section really wasnt any worse than a normal birth, 4 weeks later i was doing school run and felt fine. i suppose its like any birth, it can be good or bad, but dont go in there (if you have to) thinking it will be awful, mine wasnt and lots of other people on here had good experiences too

hi fannyannie, I had a scan at 30 weeks, another at 32 weeks - breech both times, however, I have had somersaults going on in the last few days, and more kicks above my belly button, so I reckon it has turned, will ask midwife next time. Have tried locating the head, but I haven't a clue really.

frazzledazzle · 11/04/2007 10:55

I wouldn't let anyone try to externally turn the baby I'd just go for a section.
I'm really dreading the thought of a section as my maternity hospital is rubbish and I want to go home asap.
Also I have a 17month old who can't walk yet and a 3 year old so I'm scared how I'd cope post op.But hey there's time yet the little monkey may turn.

With DS1, who turned and turned until after his due date and was by chance head down when I went into labour, I had an ECV at about 37 weeks.

He was bottom down on the day and they turned him quickly and easily. They told me that only 1 in 25 (4%) would move again after an ECV at 37 weeks but guess what - he was it! They took me in again at 39+6 to do another ECV and then induce me so that I stood the best chance of a natural delivery only to find that he was head down already.

I planned on a homebirth so I asked what the chance was of a baby head down at 39+6 turning again and they said it just didn't happen so I told them I was going home to await labour and my homebirth. It was another 8 days (until 41+1) and several turns later that he was born safely at home after checking in the early stages that he was indeed head down for delivery!

They can turn quite late and no I'm not a giant, I'm 5'2" and 6 stone 2! (DH is 6'3" and 16 stone) DS1 was 7lb7oz. Not a titch but no giant either.
