Pins and needles in Arm and hands through the night ??

No matter which side I sleep I always get woken up with strong pins and needles in the hand opposite side to which I am sleeping. Has anyone heard of this? Also I have now got a pain going down from my shoulder to my hand. Iv had it for a while but it's got worse as I'm getting bigger.

Could be carpal tunnel. I got this towards the end of my pregnancy. I had pins and needles achy hands in the morning and it was painful to 'unclench' them and type at work. I'd mention it to your midwife though if you're worried.

Hi I've had this for a few weeks, (am now 37+1). It started off as just a numb feeling in my fingers, my midwife dismissed it as due to my fingers being a bit swollen, but now it's really starting to hurt & i get a pain from my hands running up my arm which has kept me awake the past few nights. I found stretching my arms out & trying to keep them raised up high on the pillow has helped a bit. I've had tendonitis in the past so think that might be linked. Going back to the midwife this Friday so am going to ask her again if there is anything I can do.

I've got carpal tunnel, being referred to physio to see if I can get wrist splints to sleep in, worth a mention to your midwife!

The whole arm or just the hand? You're likely trapping a nerve somewhere - carpel tunnel at the wrist or ulnar nerve at the elbow most likely. Could be your radial nerve if you like on top of your upper arm.

Try not to sleep lying on your arm or with your wrists flexed and see if that helps. Everything is swollen in pregnancy which makes nerve compression more likely.

Is it something that disappears after birth? @Skyllo30 the strange thing is it's the opposite hand from the side I'm lying on so if I'm lying on my right side my left hand goes numb and vice versa very strange. And the pain iv got now is from my hand right up to my shoulder ?

Yes if its carpal tunnel it usually goes after birth unless very severe. It's caused by swelling putting pressure on the nerve so when the swelling goes the pain usually goes.
