I'm 22 weeks pregnant and attempted shopping today for some winter things for myself. I don't want to buy something too big as I will only be wearing it temporary but need a winter coat?
What are you all wearing etc?

I bought an oversized parka which I'll dig out again for this pregnancy and a swing style heavy coatigan that accommodated my bump. But if I wanted to wear one of my other coats that were a bit snug I used a massive scarf to put on with it & just left coat open.

I bought a lovely coat from new look, like a duffle parka. Fit nicely but then I thought id better swap it for the next size up (9 weeks at the min). It's very roomy

DappledThings · 08/10/2017 09:59

I got a cheap parka from Sainsbury's 3 sizes up from my normal size, worked great all through the winter.

JennyBlueWren · 08/10/2017 11:28

I just bought a giant (size 22) winter coat from a charity shop. Will return it after my second. Cheap, comfy, does the job and looks okay.

Mammatron · 08/10/2017 11:35

I used a 'cocoon coat' that I had pre-pregnancy, wore it all the way through with lots of room

beaveringaways · 08/10/2017 14:09

Boohoo have a couple of nice smart looking wrap maternity coats and only £25

TiramisuQueenoftheFaeries · 08/10/2017 14:17

I had a decent and fairly cheap winter coat from New Look maternity. I wore it afterwards for some time with DS in the sling in front.

If your coat zips you can also just use a zipin panel. These days I have a proper babywearing coat which is also my normal coat and comes with separate zip-in panels for babywearing and pregnancy. :)

BrawneLamia · 08/10/2017 20:01

I have a coat like this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Ladies-Womens-Wool-Mix-Cocoon-Lagenlook-Coatigan-Jacket-Coat-Plus-Size-10-16-/202074527788

It fit me through pregnancy and when carrying a newborn. It's not the warmest but like pp have said you don't feel the cold much in late pregnancy. It's also not really waterproof. But not bad for the price.

Namechanger2735 · 08/10/2017 20:09

Where is everyone getting maternity clothes from in general? I need some warm bits (jumpers, jackets, long sleeved tops etc), I'm 20+4 so not big big but obviously I plan on growing🤔
Don't want non maternity stuff as if I just go up a few sizes it'll be wider and baggier

Adorkable · 08/10/2017 20:12

A poncho/shawl. Its still going strong 3 years later and doesn't look oversized.

IamChipmunk · 08/10/2017 21:56

I was pregnant with both of mine thru winter (june & July babies) I got a maternity Parka from ASOS (in the sale so only paid about £40) it had a drawstring bit so you could let it out as you got bigger. I wore it all the time thru winter and it lasted both pregnancies and was still in good condition.

Namechanger I tend to get most of my basics from new look, asda or H&M. Though once I be worked out what size I am in those shops I then tend to get most things from eBay.

Loosemoose28 · 09/10/2017 23:51

I bought from jojo bebe.

I needed a winter coat and I am 12 weeks. My mum suggested I get a maternity one now as will need it through winter as I grow. The one I got has a zip in panel so for now using without a panel and it fits to size (which thanks to my expanding boobs is a 16).

katmarie · 10/10/2017 10:03

namechanger I got a lot of stuff from matalan, and basics like leggings I got in Evans and primark in bigger sizes. Debenhams also had a nice basic dorothy perkins set which had leggings, a couple of tops and a bump band in it, for not too much money. I'm 25+6 and just starting to fit nicely into the maternity stuff I've bought.

Coat wise I have this: www.macys.com/shop/product/calvin-klein-double-breasted-belted-trench-coat?ID=2193906

I bought it a few years ago, and was going to put it on ebay as I dropped a couple of dress sizes and it was way too big, but it's ideal now, I layer underneath, and with the belt, it ties just over my bump very nicely :) even if it gets to the point of not buttoning, I can still belt it up and wear a scarf with it.

harrietm87 · 10/10/2017 13:14

I'm 14 weeks now and due early April, first baby and not showing at all yet. I will be 25 weeks at christmas, 30 weeks end of Jan - for people who have had babies before, do you think I will need a maternity coat? Was kind of thinking I might just have my existing ones open with a scarf? No idea what size I'll be!

Namechanger2735 · 10/10/2017 13:44

Harriet that's what I'd do! Open coat, if it allows you jumper room underneath and a scarf

TonicAndTonic · 10/10/2017 14:43

I saw quite a few decent looking maternity coats on ebay a few weeks ago, but I went for this one:

www.gap.co.uk/browse/product.do?cid=1009973&vid=1&pid=000708249000

...unfortunately it looks as though it's gone back up to full price, I paid quite a lot less than £99 for it! It has two side zips that undo to expand the front panel.

TonicAndTonic · 10/10/2017 14:47

@Namechanger2735 most of my favourite maternity clothes so far have come from New Look.

sammy891 · 12/10/2017 21:03

I'm due in March and looking for a good parka style maternity coat that can hopefully be used afterwards. So far H&M seem to have the best one but it is a bit pricey.

sammy891 · 17/10/2017 15:08

If anyone is still looking I just recieved this one from George Asda and it is a great little bargain! There is a zip out panel and the parka can be worn as normal after the baby is born. Very similar to the Jojo Maman style at less than half the cost.

Oldschool41 · 17/10/2017 15:32

Ive just bought the maternity parka coat from Asda. I'll let you ladies no what it's like once it arrives 😀

Roseandbee · 17/10/2017 15:57

I've got a cape style coat that I bough pre pregnancy, I'm pretty sure it will fit fine even when my bump is bigger. Otherwise poncho or shawl or large cardy
