Yep, it happened to me. No waters broke 1st time nor second, even tho' contractions were about every 3 mins. Kinda feel I missed out there. Why are you bothered btw, oops? It it so you kind of know the birth is imminent?

I have had three and waters never broke on their own even at 9 cm they were still fully intact!!

Waters have been ruptured by midwife all three times so no mess in our house or our bed/car

are you worried about it

Trinityrhino · 10/04/2007 08:24

waters dont need to break to give birth
gecko was born with waters intact

Nbg · 10/04/2007 08:26

My waters didnt break for either children.

I've heard that its better if they dont break as it makes things a bit better for baby because when you contract the waters cushion the baby.

I'm just curious really...oh my god, I just wish I knew what to expect..you know. I know it's second time but doesn't make me feel confident, I'm bit scared to be honest and I'm having a homebirth, and I just try to predict what's going to happen but it's impossible really. 4 weeks to go....

Gecko was my third and I didn't feel confident at all but I think as your date gets closer you relax more

OopsImoaningagain · 10/04/2007 08:35

I'm hope I'm going to get more relax...at the moment I'm petrified. I'm also not ready at all..I still got things to prepare...and somehow I convinced myself that the baby is going to arrive very late (I'm due on 10/05)...my DD was 9 days late and Ive been told that the second one always arrive later than the first...I'm worried it's going to be too late and I'll have to be induced and have to give birth in hospital...it really worries me.

My waters didn't go until I was pushing baby out in the pool for both pregnancies. The second time around, I opted for a home water birth which was pretty scary at the time. Needn't have worried though. Felt really relaxed and safe in my own home. What's more, ds could greet his baby sister straight away (well, when he came back from the park with nannan and grandad!).
Relax, everything will go smoothly.
I was overdue 8 days with first and 5 days with second. Baby will come when ready. I had induction dates for both but didn't need them.
It wouldn't be natural if you weren't worried hun. Everybody is when it's their time. Look at it this way - the majority of second labours are shorter than the first. Mine was only 4 hours!

4 hours ??? Wow...must be nice, I hope the same for me !! Thank you to read your post makes me feel better

Echo the others, Ive had two very very similar labours, with waters not breaking until near the end. Am due with third on Friday, and hoping for similar experience again - otherwise it will be a v big shock! I was a bit worried but am now just fed up and want it over, hopefully you'll reach the same stage in time . Good luck.
BTW first labour was about 7 hours, second 5 hours - hoping not to be less than 3 hours this time or might not get to hospital!!

OopsImoaningagain · 10/04/2007 20:19

Good luck to you Nellyhel, I'm so of you for having your due date on Friday, mine is the 10/05....it seems like a lifetime, my first labour lasted for 35 hours so I'm hoping it's going to be shorter this time ! 5 hours, 7 hours ?? Lucky you, maybe for this one you should have opt for the homebirth as I guess you'll have to be very quick !! Good luck again !

Just out of interest, why is it that midwives break waters? I had waters broken by midwife with DS1 and by consultant with DS2 who incidently really hurt me when he did it. I do know that it made my contractions loads more intense/painful. Is it to speed up labour? I'm having No 3 in September, I might ask if I can go through without having that horrible hook.
