Hiding Pregnancy Excuses

Hi, I'm 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow. I have a family party tomorrow and have claimed I won't be drinking as I'm on antibiotics.
I've got another occasion at the end of October and a different one the first week of November. Things are going to get busier now it's the run up to christmas.
All occasions are with similar people and people will already be confused about tomorrow never mind the other 2... any help with excuses I can use for not drinking?!
Other than antibiotics, what excuses did you use before you'd announced you're pregnancy??
TIA Smile

I got through 3 weddings and a lot of parties and nights out this summer by just accepting drinks and not saying anything. No one noticed. Volunteering any excuse just sounds fake and draws attention to it. I would just nurse one drink for ages, swap glasses with my DH, and volunteer to get the first round in so I could get a large "g&t" (tonic or soda with lime) and then not have finished it by the time the next round came. At one of the weddings I did actually have a couple of sips of prosecco during the toasts.

Could you drive to the party or a few of the events ?

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 07/10/2017 13:18

Non alcoholic mojitos. Yum.

Sharl2017 · 07/10/2017 13:22

overnight one of them we booked a hotel so we can all drink 😂🙈 I'm just going to pretend I'm drinking that night I think. Make sure my glass is full during everyone else's round then for our round either ask for coke in a small glass so it looks like a mixer or as someone suggested appletiser in a wine glass!

Well hope it goes all to plan and very good luck (with everything)

Lozmatoz · 07/10/2017 20:26

Just hold a drink. Swap it with someone who knows so it looks like it’s going down.

ScotsLamb · 07/10/2017 20:34

We are quite remote so I got away with designated driver on occasion but also made sure I updated social media with "yummy Friday wine. I need this" essentially schloer in a wine glass. Also did a few pictures of new gin beside glasses filled with ice and tonic.
When I did go out I went for tonic and lime in pub.

Disguise is the best route:

Often the right shaped glass will do the trick. If you are holding a wine glass people don't often look further. Otherwise

Champagne glass, sparkling water, little bit of apple juice.

Wine glass, apple juice.

Anything in a long glass that can pass as vodka& or gin & - so lemonade, coke, tonic, sparkling water (but ask for a slice of lime).

If you are caught out and need an excuse, the best one is I had a big session last night and have a raging hangover. Can't face a drink.

Anything like antibiotics (which is actually not right, almost all antibiotics it is OK to drink with - there are very few that are not OK with alcohol. Antihistamines on the other hand..)
sorry antibiotic type excuses are a very transparent load of rubbish.

Driving might just about be plausible if you are a regular driver and don't drink.

Thank you overnight

& thank you everyone else. Last night went ok I think but definitely going to change tactics for the next one.

Appletiser in a champagne flute worked really well for me last night - until my mum helped herself to a sip when I wasn't looking!!! Blush

washingmachinefastwash · 08/10/2017 12:30

If anyone asks, say you’re pacing yourself so drinking soft drinks in between alcoholic drinks.

Cinderellashoe · 08/10/2017 16:12

Sometimes I go out and get hammered, other nights I have 1 glass of bubbles then drink Coke all night, no one ever questions if I am pregnant, some nights You just don't fancy it! Just don't draw attention to it or yourself

Dontknowwherethelineis · 09/10/2017 00:05

Cranberry juice in a wine glass makes a pretty convincing rose wine!

user1485778793 · 09/10/2017 02:24

I was at a wedding at 6 weeks pregnant and had found out 2 days before so was still in shock. I just put wine glass to my lips but didn't drink any of it. Eventually people around me were too drunk to notice I had the same drink. I casually spilt a bit throughout the meal....people just assumed I was drunk Grin

NiceCuppaTeaAndASitDown · 09/10/2017 02:57

I second the virgin mojitos. Looks very distinctively cocktail like so everyone will assume it is.
Got me through all the early events - I very obviously 'just had one or two' then after that said I'd had a couple of drinks but was designated driver. Absolutely no one guessed

SuperBeagle · 09/10/2017 03:19

Just don't say anything.

Accept the drink, put it to the side, or tip it out when you get the chance. No need to announce that you're not drinking.

pomadas87 · 09/10/2017 06:52

Yes I agree about accepting drinks but not actually drinking - worked for me at quite a few hen dos and parties in early pregnancy.
I also had a couple of work events where I was really expected to drink and host clients - i just told my (male) colleague I had 'lady problems this month' and really needed to not drink as I felt horrendous

RedBlackberries · 09/10/2017 07:30

I made up 'sober september' Grin. Also I said the truth which was that I drank too much over the summer and was giving my body a rest. Nobody suspected a thing. Also I agree that as long as you have a drink in your hand no one checks if you're drinking it.
