Do I need a crib bumper

As above really, we have a wooden rocking crib from John Lewis for when the baby is in our room for the first 6 months, I'm wondering if I need a bumper or whether these are considered unsafe if the baby rolled and restricted their breathing?

No, you don't need one and yes, they can be dangerous.

MaryShelley1818 · 06/10/2017 16:52

Very unsafe, you definitely don't need one.

seventeenlittleducks · 06/10/2017 16:59

No you don't! As PP said bumpers are dangerous and should be banned

HashtagTired · 06/10/2017 17:02

No no no!

MonkeyJumping · 06/10/2017 17:02

Dangerous and unnecessary

Margomyhero · 06/10/2017 17:03

I don't know why these are still for sale.

They were advises against when I was expecting DS in the late 90s.

Definitely not. I agree that it is irresponsible to sell them

Cheerybigbottom · 06/10/2017 17:15

Look into airwrap breathable bumpers, to keep arms and legs in the cot

Ttbb · 06/10/2017 17:30

Not safe and completely unnecessary

beaveringaways · 06/10/2017 20:00

Well that's a definitive answer! Thank you mumsnetters!
Now to decide whether to return the babymoov Cody dream I've just bought given the latest news!

Agree with others no cot bumper. Also, please return the babymoov thing. They are totally unnecessary and potentially dangerous.

moggle · 06/10/2017 20:59

Yeah I can't understand why the shops have suddenly withdrawn all these baby positioners when they still sell cot bumpers though the risks have been known for years.

Lemondrop99 · 06/10/2017 23:40

Hey beaver. A clear cot is safest. There's some really clear advice here to help you

We got the airwrap ones and used on the crib and cot. It stopped limbs getting stuck through the bars, and losing loads of dummies down the back. I’d use it again for another child
