Hi
I had positive HPTs a few weeks back. Had some symptoms as well. According to the NHS calculator I'm around 7 weeks however in the last week or so after having some sharp pains on and off one night my symptoms seem to have disappeared. I've read that it's normal for symptoms to go but I can't help feeling a bit nervous.
I'm unsure about what to do. I've read that there isn't much point seeing a GP. Should I call my practice and ask for a midwife appointment. Will the midwife do a blood test to check if the pregnancy is progressing? I know it's too early for a scan now. Should I wait until around 12 weeks for the midwife appointment so they can see if I am actually pregnant? Thanks

Congratulations on your positive test. Everyone is different in terms of the symptoms they do or don't experience. Mine come and go but I was solidly nauseous from weeks 7-11. I'm not sure what happens in your area but here you self refer to the midwife and have a booking in app at 8 weeks. So if it's the same for you, you could see someone fairly soon and talk about your concerns and they can advise from there. Good luck.

You could always book a private scan if that's a possibility? A heartbeat should be visible from 7 weeks. There is a clinic near me that does early scans for around £40. You would usually have a booking-in appointment with the midwife at 8 weeks and they then refer you for your 12-week scan, so you could ask for their advice when you see them. I would think it's unlikely they'll do a blood test but I'm not sure.

Congratulations and hope all works out for you, I had lots of mild cramping at the start and everything turned out just fine Smile

I saw GP at 6 weeks to tell them I was pregnant but in my area they are the gate keepers for the midwife booking appts. I then saw the midwife for that appt at 8 weeks and I have consultant appt and scan sorted for 12 weeks. If I were you I'd sort out your booking appt now so they have time to book you an ultrasound slot at 12 weeks. They can also listen to how your symptoms have been over the last few weeks and hopefully reassure you.
