Paranoid about gestational diabetes

In the early hours, unable to sleep (thanks pregnancy insomnia) I'm paranoid that my bump is huge for my stage (26 weeks) and have been go googling gestational diabetes. I have the symptoms - but then they could easily be confused with general pregnancy symptoms I guess.

Has anyone had blood glucose testing at a pharmacy? I'm thinking of getting it done as I won't see my midwife for a couple of weeks

I've had GD in both pregnancies (quite uncontrollable GD insulin managed so pretty full on) and it was pretty symptomless and picked up on only by routine blood testing due to having slightly high bmi. My fundal height measurements were spot on for dates too.

What symptoms do you have?

Unless you are feeling some serious symptoms to the point of discomfort of pain, you should wait until your oral glucose test is scheduled. It's normally done at 24-28 weeks, there are rarely any complications up to that point even for women who do turn out to have GD.

I had gd with my first one. As it runs in my family i have already told my gp about this so hopefully I will have appointment for gd testing Hmm
Mine was controlled with tablets

Thanks for replies. It may well all be in my head tbh but I've got a dry mouth, need to pee all the time and very tired - although the tiredness is most likely due to insomnia! My bump is also huge but will not be measured until my next midwife appointment in a couple of weeks. I don't have a gtt appointment as I don't have any risk factors - - just the symptoms that might all be in my head--

Aah strike through fail there but you get the gist!

Honestly needing to pee all the time is just being pregnant!
The symptoms you describe wouldn't scream GD at all to me, just regular pregnancy stuff. Even when my GD was at its worst dry mouth wasn't usual dry mouth, it was accompanied by other symptoms which you don't describe. Just mention it at your next appointment.

I'm getting fasting bloods taken today (I'm 28weeks) and from that they make an assessment if I need GTT.

I have the symptoms you describe but when I think back I've probably always had them even when not pregnant.

Fingers crossed you don't need it but phone the midwife if you are unsure.

OP I requested an OGTT despite having no risk factors (or symptoms). A high proportion of GD cases occur in women with no risk factors. Wasn't an issue- just call the midwife, say you are concerned and you'd like to have the test.

Dry mouth and needing to pee sound like regular pregnancy to me...basically at 26 weeks you can wait until your next appointment to raise it unless you really become uncomfortable or dizzy.
