Were you induced??

Has anyone been induced with polyhydramnios, or GD and polyhydramnios.

Was so relieved at 30 week scan to see that baby was measuring very normally, although a couple of weeks ahead. Had been worried about a few things before then and we seemed to be on the right track. Also had a GTT at 20 something weeks and that came back clear but towards borderline levels.

Have been for my 34 weeks scan today and sonographer sent me straight around to the antenatal unit to get a blood test and consultation; unfortunately nobody was available and I have been asked to come back first thing in the morning. The sonographer said there was "more fluid than she would like to see" around the baby with a pocket of 9.3cm.

I've of course been googling and am wondering how likely it is that an induction is recommended if I was to have GD as well as excess fluid, I can't seem to find any official information but have seen quite a few forum posts saying so. Is it common, or are you only offered induction if there are further complications on top of baby measuring large as well as excess fluid and GD?

I'm disappointed and nervous; DD was only born 2 years ago and I had no complications whatsoever. I would prefer to go into spontaneous labour and am worried about being induced :(

I was induced first time round.
It wasn’t the best experience...

If they want to induce you, I would make sure you have read the NICE guidelines on induction and why to induce, plus have a clear plan from the obstetrics team about what will happen if the induction is unsuccessful (induction tends to be less likely to succeed if they happen earlier than 40 weeks). E.g agree how long you are willing to be induced for- 24 hrs / 48hrs before you will ask for a c-section (unless you are happy with a long induction).

and make sure any birth partner is clear on what you would be willing to tolerate (for want of a better word!) - I rarely slept during my long induction and lack of sleep makes you vulnerable and you may find it difficult to be clear on your wishes.

Thanks for the reply :) I went into spontaneous labour with DD and have always been worried about intervention - a C section is worse to me than induction but if it is likely to be complicated and end in one anyway I would obviously rather not go through the stress!

I am nervous at the sudden change of events - pregnancy seemed to be progressing normally - and I am impatient to find out whether they would be willing to let me go to term or not!

One normal labor and one induction because my waters had broken before labor. I never want to be induced ever again as it is very painful ( don't know if it was more painful though because he was caught in the cord or if it is naturally more painful)

I was induced and it was painful and long! Went in on the Wednesday & she wasn't born until Friday. She's my first tho so I have nothing to compare it to, I have heard lots of positive stories for induction too! Good luck Smile

1st labour - spontaneous

2nd - induced at 42 weeks, pessary inserted midday, contractions started within the hour and baby arrived before 8pm in their sac.

3rd - planned induction tomorrow at 39 weeks if baby is still head down.

I got worked up the night before induction but went well.

I was induced with DS1 at 41+ weeks for reduced movements but did have a macrosomic baby and increased liquor. It was likely I had GDM.
It's too late to repeat GTT as after 32-34weeks they are inaccurate however can do a week of blood glucose monitoring. If you are GDM, IOL is recommended at 38-41weeks depending on how it is controlled. Maybe start looking on diabetes website for ways to control blood sugars through diet

Expectingbsbunumber2 · 02/10/2017 16:08

I was induced the first time, my little one was 12 days late.

I was induced at 40+12. Not the best experience but I've heard so many positive stories!

I'd second everything iliketea has said, make sure your lines in the sand with the med team.

Thank you all! Am feeling much more rational now :)

At my last consultant appointment when I assumed labour would be natural, I did mention my preference to an epidural and she was very supportive, so think I will just insist on an early epidural, and discuss all options with them. With the excess waters specifically I am worried about complications with cord prolapse though.
