All three of mine were induced. Do not know if it's an urban myth but I was told the more births you have had the easier they come out as your body kind of knows what it is doing. Each labour of mine got shorter. Last one was overseas and in a private hospital and they let me have an epidural before they started inducing. At the end they asked me to put down my book as I was 9 cms and it was about time to push......but they left me finish my chapter first 😀.....really!

If its 4th baby then at least your cervix isnt going to be sealed shut. It all depends on cervix and how your body responds to hormone. But yea take some magazines and be prepared for not a lot to happen for 24 hours maybe, hopefully it will be at least if you take entertainment in you wont be bored! Good luck!

My 3rd labour was induced, although I was 41+6, and it was my easiest and most enjoyable labour

Sorry. Didn't fully answer your question. Usually starts with a sweep or two, then pessaries, sometimes twice over a few hours then if nothing happening a drip. Had loads of mates induced and all fine, just a waiting game. Good luck!

I was induced at 40 weeks but would imagine it'd be the same as if at 38 weeks. 1st induction 3rd baby. Pessary went in at 10.30pm, taken out at midnight as contractions were on top of each other. He was born at 6.30am so 8 hours total. Was very intense though, although that could have been because of his huge size.

Thanx guys. I just dont want to be stuck in hospital for longer than necessary. Seems a bit long a process. Im hpping it works quickly. I know ur cervix doesnt shut properly after 1st baby making it easier for 2/3/4th births but i just wasnt sure if it would still take a long time or if it would be quicker. Its not knowin thats buggin me lol. Dont want my partner wastin his paternity time with me waitin to be in proper labour. But because of how far hospital is he would need to be with me incase i did go quickly. Such a pain in the arse lol xxx

I was induced at 42 weeks with 2nd, had several failed sweeps and cervix too far back and non favourable.

Got pessary just before noon, contractions started within the hour and baby born in sac before 8pm. Went pretty quickly and smoothly.

Getting induced with no.3 on Tuesday @ 39 weeks. I’m hoping it goes ok 🙈

I was induced at 37 weeks on the Thursday evening, told not to expect baby to be here until Saturday. I was given pessary about 17.15, contractions started about an hour later. She came flying out at 1.07am

It was a pretty traumatic labour but nothing to do with being induced, due to complications I was only aloud morphine and gas and air. If I'd been allowed an epidural and wasn't so ill I think I'd have actually enjoyed the labour.

I know what you mean about not wanting your partner to waste paternity leave. After being told it would be a long process I was almost spending the Thursday night alone. It was only due to how unwell I was that I ended up with exP, MIL and my mum with me which was lucky or I'd have given birth alone.

Asolngforthelovers : good luck 🤗 hope all goes well.

Cantthinkofaname123: omg thats terrible. Id hate to have been close to givin birth without my partner.

My sister was induced at 38 weeks a few weeks ago. She had one 24 hour pessary inserted that didn't do much, she then had a much stronger six hour pessary and then had her waters manually broken at around 9 in the morning, she was then put on the drip which was upped around every hour and her dd was born at 11 that night. Yours may be quicker as this was her first.

moralberyll · 01/10/2017 19:10

She was in hospital for 3 days though as after the first pessary inserted in the labour suite she was sent back up to the antenatal ward and then there was a delay as they couldn't insert the next pessary until there was a room free again on the labour suite.

I was induced. I was put on an induction ward in the delivery bit of the hospital. The Midwife inserts a pessary into you and you then wait 24 hours. It releases a hormone I think which can start your labour and contractions off. Anyway not much happened for me so they took it out and then the following day were planning to insert another but my waters broke just after she removed it so I was then moved to my own room and was given a drip thing to progress the labour quicker. Sorry that’s the best way I can explain it but might be worth asking your Midwife to go trough the details as I’m sure she can explain it better than I have! Good luck!! Xxx
