hi guys, bare with me as its my first post 😅

im currently 40+6 and feeling veryyyy heavy. i had already tried castor oil at 40+2 but all it did was give me an upset stomach for a couple hours. the baby is happy and healthy, currently weighing at around 3.4kg, according to last ultrasound.

at 40+4 i had a membrane sweep, since then ive been getting stronger pains but i dont believe theyre as severe as contractions. i have also been releasing more browny reddy discharge which i believe to be my show. but overall, theres not many other signs of progressive labour. i was not dilated at all, during my sweep but my cervix is very soft and my baby is very engaged.

i was wondering if taking another dose of castor oil is worth a shot to get things going as i have tried everythingggg else i can to try brinf labour on.

AFAIK the only think that might actually help is twiddling your nipples.

What is the rush? Not gonna lie I was the same wishing baby would come already etc but if you can enjoy the time you have right now (I know so many people say this) but go an have a quiet bath, have a nap, get into bed with a cuppa and read a magazine or something! Just enjoy the peace and being by yourself. Unless you have other dc Grin

Please, please don't use castor oil.

There's plenty of anecdotal evidence where people have taken it and things haven't gone wrong. But is it really worth the risk.

I had a significant amount of meconium in my waters. DD was distressed and heart rate kept dropping. I ended up having an emergency c section under General anaesthetic.

I didn't take castor oil but was told that the effects were very similar to what we went through and we could have easily lost DD.

I was 2 weeks overdue so I feel your impatient on wanting little one to come but it's really not worth the risk.

Castor Oil is a laxative. It works by being absorbed and creating cramps to speed up the poo going through your body.
It is passed through the placenta to the baby so the baby then experiences stomach cramps and passes meconium/ poo. It is the distress that can then stimulate labour. It is a bit cause of SCBU admissions.
I wouldn't ever cause my baby distress and discomfort to relief mine. EVER!

update

i had my baby 3 days after a membrane sweep, 5 days after the castor oil and i can confirm that the castor oil didnt work for me and its just best to wait for baby to come in their own time Grin
