Sleep WORSE in the long waited second trimester?!

Have had a worrying pregnancy so far so a bit of a relief to get to the celebrated second trimester where I have it on good authority that things get easier Smile

In first trimester, sleep was the one thing which went pretty well, apart from the regular loo trips.

I'm now 14 and a half weeks and in last week or so have been waking up restless, can't get comfortable, vivid dreams and nightmares, period of lying awake and MORE loo trips than before

Did anyone else have this? I'm scared it's a hormonal change because of something wrong...

No, that sounds pretty normal to me. The flood of hormones in early pregnancy makes you really sleepy. I've always slept so well in 1st tri. But unfortunately those hormones subside (in your blood) when the placenta takes over around 12 weeks. And I've never found I was as sleepy or slept as well after that. Also as you get further on, it's uncomfortable to sleep on your bed and then you sleep even less well, especially with baby kicking you in the colon all night! So a sign really that all is moving along and I wouldn't worry about it. Congrats on your pregnancy!

Noooo, poor you. I'm hoping the second trimester will click like a switch and I'll suddenly be full of energy again Grin.

No advice but 14 weeks is early 2nd trimester so maybe another week or two and you'll be better. Someone recommended me a lush body lotion that is amazing for sleep. I'll try to link it.

Nothing's wrong it gets worse as it goes on. The toilet trips have decreased to be honest but turning over in bed has become a full time job, lots of cushions to keep me comfortable but still wake up constantly.
Don't worry about it. My midwife told me not to drink so much before bed but I keep a glass of water nearby in case I'm up and thirsty in night

I didn't start to see any improvement to my nausea or exhaustion until 18 weeks in this pregnancy, it was about 14 weeks with DS. Hopefully you'll start feeling better soon.

Hey I would say thats pretty normal... most people get crap nights sleep in fairly early pregnancy because of being anxious etc.

the 2nd Trimester is a long one and you are really only just into it... give it a few weeks and you'll start feeling a lot better and sleeping more etc

By the 3rd Trimester you won't be sleeping anyway so you need some training 😉 Lol

I thought this and then suddenly at 18/19 weeks it all got much better. I've had 5 good nights sleep in a row now - still waking up once a night to pee but that's a huge improvement and I'm going straight back to sleep again after! Nausea seems to have improved a bit too and the weird dreams are still weird but aren't impacting my sleep so much. 14 weeks really is early in the second trimester and I think everyone saying it gets better in the second trimester gets your hopes up! It is highly likely to get better soon!
