"Morning" sickness - I feel so so bad. Did you take time off work?

I'm 6+2 today and the sickness is unbearable. I'm not actually vomiting but the nausea is insane. I had to sit in bed for two hours after waking up before I could get out of bed this morning.

I've been working from home today although I've done very little as I feel so awful I can do 5 minutes work then have to lie down.

I've been trying to eat but thought of food makes me feel awful.

I feel like I'm on the verge of throwing up the whole time and dizzy but haven't actually thrown up. I've had some diarrhoea though.

If this continues I genuinely don't see how I can go to work. It doesn't help that I have a 3 hour round trip commute into central London (think packed trains, long walk or cycle from station to office).

But there are a few other pregnant women at work and they've never had time off. They complain of "morning sickness" from time to time but I'm not sure they can have had it that badly as they're still functioning? I'm literally struggling to climb the stairs in my house I feel so faint.

Do I just need to "man up"? I'm really not sure I can.

I'm definitely not a skiver by the way: I only took 1 day off after being in an accident and all my colleagues were astounded I wasn't off for at least a week.

Even if you can continue to go into work you'll need your boss to know in case you suddenly have to disappear to the toilet.

Keep experimenting with different foods. You might hit on something that works. For me it was oatcakes in the morning and rich tea biscuits in the afternoon. If I missed a meal I would feel far far worse and in the end ate half a biscuit every half an hour between meals to make the nausea bearable.

I bought online some hi-tech sickbags that absorb stuff and carried them everywhere and changed my commute to have as little fannying around at the London end as possible. I also wore a baby on board badge from early on so that I could sit down on the trains.

Fingers crossed this eases for you as the weeks pass.

Even if you don't have HG, you can still have very severe nausea. I've suffered with HG throughout my whole pregnancy and for me, the constant nausea was far more debilitating than the vomiting (even when I was throwing up several times a day). It's not a competition and don't feel like you have to meet a certain criteria of severity for your suffering to be 'worthy'. You clearly feel awful, take it seriously and seek help for it. Do not feel bad, this isn't something you could prevent. It can make you feel terrible and how you feel is completely valid.

Try some ginger protein breakfasts if you can stomach it? Frankfurters have saved me. I crave carby breakfasts but I just felt terrible after eating them.

2 jumbo Franks and I'm much better.

I swear by my little bottle of peppermint oil. One big whiff of that every time I feel a wave and it's instantly vanished. Life saver for me, though I haven't suffered that badly.

I'm 6+4 and exactly the same. Extreme, constant nausea and debilitating vertigo. Don't actually vomit so not HG, but it's still horrific. Have been signed off for last two weeks, have 2.5 hr round commute and there's no way I can work. Even lying in bed moping is an effort. Am on cyclazine for the nausea which does help but it's still there strong. Prochloperazine also for the vertigo. Both commonly prescribed in pregnancy and very good safety record. I'm normally very for and active and eat at healthy diet but ask I can do is lie in bed eating white carbs and the occasional chocolate bar...very, very unlike me.Confused

I've had to tell HR I'm pregnant as my boss is a twat and I know she'll be a nightmare. HR very supportive. I'm going to take next week off and hope it will be the last. Had five weeks off with DC1 though.

I really feel for you OP, it's crap. I lurk on the HG threads but don't post as I feel a bit of a fraud for not vomiting. Everyone's sickness is different though and its not like we're playing morning sickness top trumps.

If I were you, I'd see your GP, get some drugs and a sick note and prepare for telling work sooner than you'd like. Be kind to yourself Flowers

I wholeheartedly agree with Lemondrop, OP. I was diagnosed with HG because of the constant, crippling nausea. It's horrendous. Get down to the doctor and explain how you are feeling - if you can't drink properly you might already be dehydrated and that can be dangerous. In my experience health professionals are less worried about eating and weight loss but not getting dehydrated is essential. They can put you on medication that is perfectly safe in pregnancy. I'm on cyclizine and vitamin B6 and it helping to control the nausea. Best of luck x
